One of my favourite books ever. Raymond Chen's blog of the same name has a new and almost always very interesting article about software development (on Windows in particular, of course) every workday. The most interesting and entertai

It's not exactly been kept up to date, most obviously by not taking into account IE10 and later. Support for things like box-shadows and gradients is pretty much at least 90% now, close to 100% in the western world.

This, exactly. I'd like to add one thing though: do not force yourself trying to get back to "normal". I made that mistake, going back to work before I had properly recovered, and it actually resulted in prolonging my burnout

Yes, as Kalleboo said, please do. I can't speak for others, but personally I find such postmortems to be among the most interesting kind of articles on here.

No company is all bad. I'm sure there are plenty of techs at Verizon and its subsidiaries that are just trying to do the best job they possibly can and are excited and rightfully proud to diagnose and fix such a problem. Looks like the

It's not even true that a single building has only one address, must exist in one town or even in one country. There's a house that has one address in Baarle Hertog (Belgium) and another address in Baarle Nassau (Netherlands), wit

It's a pity that governments place themselves above the law. It would be nice to see the US government forced to actually pay up. It would be even nicer to see the band donate any sum awarded to an organisation like Amnesty Internation

No, it's not. The check is done before the loop, so i has the correct value inside the loop. Still, the trick makes it look suspect and that's an argument against using it.

I've seen mistype rates of close to 20% without the second field. Still, my boss won't allow me to put in the second field because he feels it would hurt the user experience.

Indeed. It is misnamed (and I'm the one who did the misnaming, I'll take the blame for it). As it stands, it is a bit of a hybrid. Your version (which is similar to what I had considered, actually) would be relatively easy to map

Cool, thanks. Those are some pretty big numbers. What kind of a site is it? It is really interesting to see the variance, btw. Twitter, KickStarter and Bootstrap running at thousands of rules, Google and Wikipedia at under 200. And a whole

The use of 401 Unauthorized is an annoying one because of a little thing in the spec: The response MUST include a WWW-Authenticate header field (section 14.47) containing a challenge applicable to the requested resource. AFAICT, This makes

This really is a cool one. The different ports makes it very suitable for handling a specific kind of problem. It might also be nice if there was a port that responded with a random selection from the errors (or with a proper response). e.g

Backups don't keep your system somewhat running in the event of failure. And unless you run a full image backup, it takes much more time and effort to restore from a data-only backup than to simply do a direct copy off of a write-locke

Thanks for the bug report. I'll look into that. As for why to trust it... you won't know to trust me any more than a real CA. With a real CA you also only have their word. I've taken as many steps as I can to ensure that the
