On both Firefox and Chrome on Mac OS X (10.6.8), the water itself flickers quite badly, despite a smooth framerate.

Agreed. And not just code. Things you've done, why and how. Sometimes you spend a lot of time searching Google and Stack Exchange to piece together lots of fragments of information. Writing a blog post about it not only helps keep it in one

That's the same thing that I thought as I read the article. In fact, to me the article comes across as having a slightly whiny tone. Sure, there are questions that may not be the most pleasant to hear or answer or may even seem ignorant, bu

"Though I'd rather not see his exploits on HN." <--- this I have no idea whether he really is, but all I read about this situation makes McAfee seem more and more like a crackpot. I can't say I've cared about his company's products for

It's genuine. Having a bit of fun, because I always liked those online "treasure hunts". And my guess is that your WTFs relate to the fact that the numbers change on every pageview. That's because it's not an encryption, but more an obfusca

I don't think there is. Given the interest that was shown throughout the world, I'm sure that if any region had a surplus supply, demand from other regions would already have gobbled it up.

I think they use an IP check for that. Right now, when I go to that same URL, I see "Sorry! Devices on Google Play is not available in your country yet.", whereas my friend in Germany sees that it's not available (or rather: sold out).

Cute idea. But does it take into account the country from which I sign up? It's not available in this country (The Netherlands) at all atm. Does your site only check US availability?

Yet another developer who uses Webkit styles only. Very annoying, especially when other browsers support the same features. A simple search and replace for -webkit- to -moz- in the HTML and CSS as well as another from "linear 0 infinite nor

Nice one. This may actually convince me to get Win8 as it would then become a much more useable desktop OS.

Weird. Trying your page, I get approx 46fps on Chrome 22, 85fps on Firefox 16. Perhaps graphics card/driver related? (This is on a 5 year old Core 2 Duo at 1.86GHz, with a GeForce GT8800 on Windows 7).

True. For all the bitching about Mozilla's switch to a Chrome-like rapid release schedule as well as the "virtue" of having a stable target platform to develop against, by the time IE11 becomes reality, it'll have degraded from "really good

Subtle and hard to trace bugs, yes. Can also happen if time() is used several times in a request, but in different functions. I've taken to preferring $_SERVER['REQUEST_TIME'] in most cases.

PayPal doesn't ask you for some extra data. It blocks ("limits") your account so you can't actually use it until you provide them with a copy of your utility bill or something. Terrific when you're on vacation and need to make a PayPal paym

Setting overflow:hidden on the container div works all the way back to IE6. The caveat there is that any actual overflow is hidden, which may be unexpected. Things like box-shadows and absolutely position children.

The original presentation was nicely done, but knowing how things work in JavaScript (even though I don't know Ruby) meant I didn't exactly have that WTF-experience. This article explains it nicely to those who had.
