This is super cool, great work! It's the second (mostly-)language-native implementation[1] outside of a browser that I'm aware of, both started this year despite the WebRTC spec being finalized about 5 years ago. It's really

"One of" :) I'd argue eternum is not quite at the same level since it just takes an IPFS object as an input (but no IPFS output). Op made a thing that takes an IPFS object as an input and produces a different IPFS object as a

Is this one of the first examples of an IPFS-based API? This is very cool. I like that you can take something that is effectively on your disk, ping some endpoint, and it will get "pulled" by the service as a peer and process it.

pions' webrtc is the only third-party implementation with that level of completeness, and it's not very complete yet. It's super new (months old), but it's exciting! See issues: https://github.com/pions&#

In case anyone is curious about the size of the Ethereum blockchain (which the linked article doesn't even mention but seems to inevitably come up in comments), I took some measurements recently: https://twitter.com/sha

Ultimately, all full nodes will also be light clients--that is the nature of the upcoming sharding changes. It does not make sense to have a full node for every light client. A full node is perfectly capable of safely serving hundreds or th

Godoc is an excellent forcing function when it's not ignored. Designing your package's public namespace so that it looks sensible in godoc yields great results for consumers.

I suspect you're right in the short term, but in the long term it will push more users to adopt Linux and maybe eventually devs will pay more attention.

Tracy has been working on Linux and Windows specific versions, but turns out the differences are super minimal. With Windows, the recommendation is to install the Linux subsystem, then things end up being the same (give or take some UI). If

It is an "intro" after all. :) The target audience is beginners who are just trying to learn programming and things like that. Pipes are cool, but that's more intermediate/advanced. Maybe there will be another zine in th

One of the goals of the zine is to get people up to speed with what they need to know to learn programming--good to have a goal while you're learning, right? When setting up Python (and really most languages), you end up needing things

Heya HN, I worked on this with Tracy (who is on a plane right now). That is, she did everything and I made some doodles for the cover, but happy to answer any questions! If you have a friend or coworker who is looking to get more comfortabl

Having shared these zines with beginners IRL (hi, I did the cover!), I can say that the abstract nature of the terminal makes it less intimidating but does not remove from the content. I imagine for an intermediate/expert audience who

Like most things, "Open Source" is relative and spans a gradient. It can be open but undocumented, it can be open but with closed components, it can be open but broken, it can be open but closed to outside contributors, and so on.

Also Gmail's spam filtering is still unparalleled. I actually pipe my Fastmail through Gmail just for the spam filtering. Sigh. Kinda wish they released their spam filtering service as a stand-alone service.

You can host the UI wherever you want. You can put it on IPFS, you can broadcast it as a bittorrent, you can put it on Github, you can put it in a pastebin, you can even put it on the blockchain. A lot of developers choose to have a replica

The bad news: There's no unified HiDPI solution on Linux that works well end-to-end. The good news: You don't really need one. Bumping the font configuration fixes 80% of the scenarios, and the rest I tweak on a case-by-case basis
