Love pglogical. I was thinking, it'd be nice to orchestrate this setup using pglogical too. Would attempt it if there is interest. Especially with bi-directional replication setup.

I will update the readme to mention this - but the lib takes care of updating sequence with the data catchup: https://github.com/shayonj/pg_easy_replicate/blob/13ad6af51f...

Thanks for taking a look! Thats right, it was a typo. Mean't zero data loss and minimal downtime. There are some strategies in the readme like using weighted based DNS failover to reduce the downtime even less without requiring applica

Very interesting. Just so I understand - are you asking how does pg-osc updates the references in view(s) when pg-osc performs an ALTER on a table that is being referred in these view(s)? If so, it actually doesn't handle that currentl

Except for few cases, it doesn't. This thread above on MySQL and online DDL is ncie. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=30581314 pg-osc doc says that since the alter statements can vary in nature, it supports if a re

Thanks for the suggestion, I will def take that into consideration. With SERIALIZABLE currently the transaction and lock with it is harmless, but perhaps the design will change at some point in future.

Yeah, I have been mostly erring on the side of caution since the use cases can vary a lot. Transactional DDLs are a big savior for sure. Were there specific features that seemed redundant? I am always looking to iterate on this. - Author of

Hello! Author of the post here - Yeah I agree, it's certainly a bit wasteful, especially during the operation. You can clean up the table automatically in the end with --drop. Love the concept and path with Reshape btw, I think its ver

This is very cool! I no longer work on Rails on daily basis, but would have loved to have this. I built something similar called `pg-osc` / `pg-online-schema-change` for PostgreSQL workloads. It does zero downtime migrations using trig

Thank you! I appreciate it. Yeah, didn't get much attention, I was curious to get feedback/thoughts from the HN community. Perhaps, I will re-share later after few more changes are live.

thats a good call out - i suppose infra eng can mean different things. This was a bit more operationally focused i agree. I was thinking of talking about HA and replication, but also wanted something relatively short, perhaps another post :

We are in the process of launching a service that would utilize a marketplace feature and currently looking into options available. I am wondering how is Stripe Marketplace different compared to Balanced marketplace with the escrow feature.
