True, but if you make the query a bit more general and sort by year, you get some wildly interesting results: http://gen.lib.rus.ec/search.php?&req=%E2%88%86introduction+...

Great! I was just reading through the first edition this week. It's excellent. Also see Mining of Massive Datasets: http://infolab.stanford.edu/~ullman/mmds/book.pdf

I used to be very skeptical, as you are, about the same sort of thing. And by the lack of “trial” specifically. One sort of trial is an investigative report from a journalistic institution with a reputation at stake. When someone pointed th

There have been many attempts to redesign HN, but I wanted to try staying faithful to the original. E.g. here’s what this thread looks like: https://lambdanews.io/item/17810208 One unfortunate side effect of using a “m

That's not really true. There are restrictions, but it's real dota. The fact that people haven't had time to adapt to the rules is irrelevant; the bots' strategy is very similar to TI4, when deathball meta was in fashion

I felt so bad for whoever made the email mistake. I hope they're feeling alright. It's a bug everyone could see themselves letting slip through.

There are so many drafting combinations that it's not quite obvious it's a bad idea until you hit the 3 minute mark. Take OpenAI game 3 as an example. The first two games, OpenAI wiped the floor with the humans and taunted them th

Mm, everyone said the same kind of thing last year. It's worth being skeptical, but I'd rather be a true believer and be proven wrong. It seems like betting against technology to say that they can't beat the top dota team in

One specific thing that bots could help Icefrog solve: Many games are draft wins, i.e. a >90% chance of winning solely due to the heroes you've picked. There's almost no point in playing these games out for 20-40 minutes; it&#x

The thing is, OpenAI are terrible at the game. If they try to coach too much, they'll ruin their chances at beating the top Dota team. They have to let the bot discover its own winning strategies. For example: There are an infinite num

As someone who was once semi-pro in dota (4400 MMR, get rekt), it's freaky watching these bots play. It's uncanny. Little things... Like, when the bots are taking a tower, one of them will stand in front of the tower and tank th

It figures that my critique would be undermined by the choice of a single word. Look, maybe the stdlib is rock solid. But every time I try to build a Go project, `go build` finds ten ways not to work. Case in point: https://githu

Go is still one of the most difficult and counter intuitive build systems ever devised. Usually you’d expect a project to build out of the box. Go seems to take a stance of “Haha nope, get ready to figure out which version of the standard l

Is this the first step toward building a viable holodeck? No. Don't be fooled by the marketing. No one knows how to produce realistic-looking 100% CGI. Raytracing is even worse in some respects than traditional raster based graphics,

Yes, but users can't be expected to know how to do that. And my users are the ones who want to play ROMs. Maybe it's possible to bundle tor with the executable though, and have the network connections automatically route through t

The trend of "Programming must be for business!" is so tiring. Also the trend of dismissing the next generation's preferences as nothing more than a fad, or somehow detrimental to human civilization. Life goes on.

I think it's user error. The app's first recommendation for "I don't care, just give me cheap food" was a place I had no idea existed. It happens to be on North Avenue. https://www.yelp.com/biz/

I see this is a centralized service. Is there protection from DMCA takedowns? For example, if someone uploads a bundle of 50 N64 ROMs, and someone tries to DMCA that link so that this service no longer provides an index to it, is there cens
