It is shocking. It was completely unheard of behavior at S2 Games. I was shocked to even be in the same market segment.

Uhh, that logic doesn’t folllow. Heh. I’m a former S2 dev (heroes of newerth, a pretty similar game). The player base is uncontrollable. It’s a bunch of testosterone fueled teens. Granted, we didn’t have any women in leadership positions ei

I was thinking that exact thing in the name of experimentation. A sort of "Please come harass me, I want to see what people have to deal with."

It is easy to imagine a world where all game content, no matter how derivative, was not allowed to be used without the explicit permission of companies. Do you think that you'd be better off in that world? One where Let's Plays ar

Yeah, it's more like "Any time someone presents a problem with systemd, someone else will claim politics." It's kind of fascinating to watch software become so polarizing. Like, it's technology. It doesn't inhe

So, speaking of jailtime, where are the ROMs coming from? I see that the games simply work, and you can pick any you want. I've been trying to make this concept, but distributed, so it can't be taken down. Curious if this will get

Again, Disney did exactly that . They ruthlessly exploited Alice in Wonderland and built an empire on it. And you're arguing that no one should be able to do the same. This is the definition of unfair. I see we're very far apart

Mm, a fair critique. This is one of the classic arguments where people feel strongly in one direction or another, and it takes very little effort to essentially set up a yay/nay vote. We can find common ground, but I wish it were possi

Yeah! We're thinking along the same lines. I think with a bit of work, libretro can be modified to do it: https://github.com/libretro/parallel-n64 It's already been ported to the web. https://mediu

The argument is that it's harmful for society to restrict artists from remixing other people's work. And when you put it that way, how could it be otherwise? We'll have to agree to disagree that it'd cause problems for p

I don't disagree, but at least some money would come my way. Currently no money comes. And yeah, I could build my own game with my own characters instead of modding old ones, but why? It'd be fun to put a silly hat on Starfox an

I remain hopeful that the outrage machine will fizzle itself out. The key is to make sure resources are distributed as widely as possible, but without eliminating the concept of private ownership. When people want for nothing, there's

There's just one small problem: Blockchains are massive, slow, and it takes new users hours or days to join an old blockchain. Once those miiiinor problems are solved, I'll agree. It makes sense as a store of value. But a realtime

Is there a nice xv6 equivalent for x86_64? How do MIT students learn about 64-bit arch? https://aaronbloomfield.github.io/pdr/book/x86-64bit-ccc-cha... This was good, but it leaves a lot out. No mention of kernel

It’s because args to syscalls are passed in registers rather than the stack. This is a security mechanism I believe, but I’m mostly guessing based on xv6. Basically, if you want a kernel space and a user space, you have to ensure users can’

If there is no privacy, why not host the data on s3 or Dropbox? Data storage is dirt cheap. The privacy concern seems like the prime reason to build such a service.
