1. Hey, I more or less agree with this guy 2. Hahahahahaha 3. Aside from the fact that his wording is backwards from his meaning, I agree that it should be possible to write code that doesn't ever garbage collect. 4. Ok 5. Does this guy kno

Exactly. If it makes business sense to wait for someone to accidentally infringe on your patent, you clearly shouldn't have that patent.

After seeing the emerging pattern, I skipped to the end to see if they just sold spice racks. Too bad, I'd have liked that ending better.

From the essay on determination: > We can imagine will and discipline as two fingers squeezing a slippery melon seed. The harder they squeeze, the further the seed flies, but they must both squeeze equally or the seed spins off sideways

If you've already done "significant work" on the business idea without discussing the split, you've got problems.

If it's a good prototype that proves the concept and acts as a target, then it mightn't matter if there's any reusable code there.

Well, maybe I was wrong about you - I'm cynical. When I watch a late night informercial with some guy claiming he'll sell me his super simple plan to make lots of money, I tend to think I already see his plan.

I think the authors of these SEO blogs should come clean at the end of the article about the real purpose of the article - SEO.

Am I the only one who came up with the solution "embed the ads in your game" while reading the description of the problem? Of course, my excitement of having guessed this plot twist faded when I read on about how this was patented. Oh wel

It's only counterintuitive until you think about it. Like "people who receive chemotherapy are more likely to die of cancer than people who don't."

Languages and abstractions aren't really that different. Every time you define a new function, you're in some sense extending the language. In languages with powerful macro systems, this "language extension" is even more potent. I agree w

Main reflex: Some useful syntactic advances over Java, but where's the beef? I see generics exist at runtime - what else? Also, is the type system known or believed to be sound? Are there casts?

I say the point goes to HilbertSpace here. I think Nudge wasn't merely suggesting that there's another way to interpret the quote, but was rather suggesting that was the intended way to interpret the quote. Of course, Nudge was right ab

I'm surprised that ~45 and counting people would downvote this. I assume these are people who saw "See no evil, hear no evil" and are taking it out on me.

Anyone know the name of this algorithm? There is a similarly solved classic problem in complexity theory: Given an O(m) list of O(n)-bounded integers, determine if there are duplicates in O(m) time and O(n) space.

Wow, it says -4, but I seem to have lost over 30 karma on this comment. Is -4 just the display cap?

Dijkstra slipped up and used "loose" when he meant "lose", which I found to be humorous and a little bit jarring. That's all my above comment meant - nothing base! Apologies if anyone read it the wrong way. Also, pull my finger.

Being able to inspect state is useful whenever you have state. Have you used a good debugger for Haskell? Does one exist? Do you write complicated software in Haskell? I'll agree that Fibonacci and factorial programs don't need a debugg

I doubt that infection with one strain of HIV is preventing infection with another strain, except to the extent that some of the people engaging in the most risky behavior are getting "taken out of the system" by AIDS. Something like this
