Doesn't litigation come to an end when justice has been served? You mean once justice has taken its cut, right?

You're putting words into my mouth -- I didn't say anything about what regulation I favor. First and foremost, I was just pointing out that whether there was price fixing is independent of how widespread the price fixing was, or whether th

Price fixing is when parties coordinate to set the prices of their items. It doesn't matter that you're able to sell your books at any price -- if two or more publishers got together and agreed not to cut prices below a certain point, then

I haven't watched the video yet, but will be shocked if it contains ideas that it would take 52 minutes to absorb in written form.

It's much easier to remember and apply the corresponding finite state machine, where you just keep track of the remainder mod 7 that you've seen thus far. Example: 48193. What's the remainder mod 7? 48 mod 7 = 6 -- First two digits 61

Presumably the desired condition is that gcd(n,m) = 1 (the number of teeth be relatively prime) so that each tooth of one gear meets with each tooth of the second gear, cyclically. If there are variations/defects in teeth, this might help

Ya, it looks like I bungled the logic. Let 'Pr X' means 'X is provable'. Let A be your A. Really what I wanted to say is that: Pr A -> (~Pr ~Pr A) and thus, Pr a -> Pr ~Pr ~Pr A. Hence, ~Pr ~Pr ~Pr A -> ~Pr A Taking A to be ~Pr

I disagree. Logs and streams are very different kinds of output. For number one, streams are usually more fluid, and I tend to have a higher volume of stream output than logs. For number two, it's more important to produce logs at regul

Suppose we could resolve (conclusively prove one way or the other) whether P=NP. Then we could also prove that we could resolve whether P=NP. Thus, if we can prove that you cannot prove that you can resolve P=NP, then we have also proven

I don't know that this technique is a big win for this kind of memorization. For example, multiplication of digits probably needs to be in L1 cache. You don't want to have to search for the result in your memory palace, which seems more l

It would be more interesting to limit the comparison to those who die of causes other than, say, gunshot wounds. It would also be interesting to see a comparison of health, rather than just length of life.

I thought the article was terrible, but rather than contribute anything useful, I'm going to mock the title. "99% less open" is idiomatic and means "1/100 as open". It's a round number, conveying an order of magnitude. On the other hand,

You're missing part of the Turing test - the humans involved need to have an incentive to prove they are human. A bot that's indistinguishable from a typical youtube commenter doesn't clear that bar.

I wasn't implying anything. I was linking to data that I found interesting. Black populations have been increasing (though have recently plateaued). It's the whites that have been decreasing since ~1950.

But isn't recursion depth the same as depth if each operation in your recursive function is constant time (except for the recursing bits)? Thus you can look at recursive depth as computing depth modulo the bits you compute in your function
