I was terrified approximately 14 months ago when the big pharma companies started to get billions to develop the vaccine. My fear was that their research was fraudulent and they would be exposed and discredit science as a whole. I am very h

I an not so naive to think that the recent deals with the Gulf states and the thawing with SA are not related to these exports. We benefit from it. I am very conscious of the enormously disproportionate criticism and hate Israel gets in man

Fortunately there are plenty of developers that can reimplement or improve them. If there were a big economic incentive to do so you would see everything rewritten from scratch, redesigned, optimized and polished in two months

That's correct from a "spiritual" point of view, but pragmatically it is possible to define a spectrum from tyranny to democracy based only on the structure of power. More precisely you can look at the number of people the ru

For politicians in democracies citizens are potential voters, foreigners don't matter. It's still arguably better than dictatorships, where your citizens don't matter either, as long as you have a good police system. We act s

It's only mildly informative (it doesn't cover the HTML5/XHTML war, webassembly, shaders, Shockwave, silverlight, etc...) . And it promotes a commercial service Frankly I don't think it belongs here

I agree that refusing to compile is stubborn on their part. But tailoring the build to your system is very valuable, at least as an option. And a big part of the blame lies with the CPU and OS manufacturers that fail to provide good consist

My biggest problem with Wikipedia now is not the bias. I can read through it and I never even made the assumption Wikipedia is trustworthy on political issues. My problem is that the Wikimedia foundation is becoming more corrupt. They recei

Just a point for the first chapters: you are not required to run your own local server (even if things push in that direction) You can include the wasm as an ArrayBuffer or as a base64 encoded string and hardcode it in the javascript. Now i

I stuck with Joplin, because it is FOSS and not much worse than Obsidian. I actually like Obsidian more and I would be glad to pay the price. My problem is that it now runs well, uses compatibile formats, is actively maintained - but who kn

Not to mention that a big part of the confusion is not even the compilation - it's not beyond possibilities to inspect the machine code - but the processor itself still does a lot of unintuitive stuff, even more so with concurrency. I

That's exactly the issue. Obsidian is great but not open source. I think the closest free software equivalent is Joplin (or maybe Zettlr)

Exactly. I won't use any proprietary format for stuff that should last but the free software world is very lacking. But I also guess the likes of Facebook make it hard to access "your" data on purpose

You are probably referring to a different Nesher, some 69 km from the site (the cement factory near Ramle). This makes the flame down here ridiculous.

What changed is that the bulk of human communication now is happening on the Internet. And the Internet itself is concentrated in the hands of few companies. And there is an increasing sophistication of actors who play the system. This mean

For me Obsidian is better but Joplin tramples it because it is open source Pros: - Open source - Rich markdown with math notation, code highlighting and more - Sincronizable - Actively maintained Cons: - Not so polished, especially in mobil

The real problem is the lack of proportions around "viewpoint diversity". A flat earther, a neo-Nazi, an anarchist, a conspiracy theorist have all different viewpoints. But we can't ask people to stop referring to the Earth a
