Thanks for the summary -- that was really helpful. Is ecological psychology used in a broader way than just movement / sports? I guess I'll read the wikipedia page, but I'm intrigued by the idea, so if there's a review

Semi-related: I read the first page of your second reference and really can't make any sense of it, despite having what I would have thought to be enough knowledge to at least orient: "We aim to construct a physically-grounded com

I'm really interested in these views that view these human systems almost as physical systems, with semi-legible dynamics and complex (but comprehensible) interactions, and even implications. Thus the irons laws. I'm also very ta

I'd never heard of this, and it's already proved a fascinating rabbit hole. Thanks!

I think there's a lot of truth to this. I also suspect that, if you translated the median person from the US to the alternate-reality world of FALC they might look around in wonder; while the people native to the FALC reality would be

Thanks for making that connection, Joy was an interesting voice back in the day. Curious: has he done anything in longer form than that Wired article to expand this idea?

It would hard to be more explicit than doing a demo of multi-modality in GPT-4, and having an audio API that is amazing and that you can use right now, for pennies. It would be interesting to know if this really changed anything for anyone

I used to think this kind of talk was bullshit grandpa paranoia. Sadly, I now agree with it 100%.

Thank you for that. I wonder if you'd be able to just post a link to the paper, or give its title? I didn't have a Meetup account, tried to create one, spent 4 minutes dicking with it, and still can't get it to let me in.

Would love to hear more about this -- it's basically the use case that I want to have, that for whatever reason nobody has built. Have you written anything about how you (or someone) hacked this together?

Is there a paper, or some other source, that synthesizes this grab-bag of techniques? As an interested outsider, it's hard to keep up with all the action. Would appreciate any pointers that try to bring some of the pieces together.

I'm not the person you're arguing with, but going back to the original meta-point of this thread, I too think you're vastly over-estimating people's introspective power on their internal states, including states of knowi

I hate Wyze so bad. They sell this really lovely and cheap IP-enabled camera, perfect for figuring out which cat was pissing in the basement. But to activate it requires your phone number, and then they spam you, forever after, with text

That's what's been so striking for me -- the stuff that is fun and playful for me I get to do; and a bunch of stuff that I hated I can now offload, with the net result that I get to work at the level of abstraction that is most in

This makes sense. In the "token window" of a human being, the same strategy would also work, e.g., p1: "What do you think of my story? Be honest." p2: "I'd rather not say." p1: "Seriously, tell me w
