To their credit, the "25 cent" price tag would really only make sense in a prepaid environment. I kinda figured nobody would charge less than credit card processing fees.

I don't speak for him, but here's my opinion. Since most information is just a quick web search away, most people have no incentive to actually absorb that information. Since we are constantly overloaded with information (and we're always c

Personality tests aren't very revelatory though. Telling someone whether they are shy or not is almost the same as telling someone what color their eyes are -- they could've just as easily looked in the mirror and figured it out a long time

If I can get a textbook for free or sub-$10 with contextual ads on the side, I might be fine with seeing ads.

I use Posterous. I love it - it gives you enough features but also automates some of the mundane things. It allows custom templates, uploads, and just about anything you'd want for free. For me, a blog is about the content more than anythin

I find it funny how hands-off the article is. CNN tries too hard not to offend anyone, and unlike most articles, it doesn't actually present its own opinion. Which would be nice to see in everyday reporting, but it seems the risk of offen

The main thing with GitHub that makes it a great example of freemium is that they have two separate audiences for free and paid accounts. The free accounts are for open source projects and random hackers who write code for fun. By doing thi

Not to mention, people may already have local copies of stuff they post of TwitPic. Blocking Posterous just means re-uploading stuff, which is a nuisance. The only person who loses here is TwitPic. Unless you're as big as Facebook, you can'

Well, in many ways the "rate my startup" posts are a smaller, more down-to-earth version of TechCrunch that actually allows you to interact with the founders of the startup and really get to know the product and the person(s) behind it. You

I agree with most of what you said, except for the Google App Engine part. The App Engine free quotas are great (Python support and free quotas are basically the main reasons why I chose App Engine). The App Engine free quotas allow you to

I think this article doesn't do too good of a job distinguishing a conversion funnel and the actual features of an app. For a conversion funnel, simplicity is better. The less a person needs to do to sign up or make a purchase, the more peo

As a high school student, here's what I've found: Most students in public school systems don't actually pay for books, so the students couldn't really care less about who makes the books they use let alone the licensing, cost, etc. Parents

From what I understand of the tech specs of both (not an owner of either) the Kindle has a special screen unique to modern e-book readers that mimics the paper-ink reaction to light (i.e. more light is more readable) rather than the iPad's

In large part, we need to educate people on food choices in America. Labeling is a start, but it's mostly a cultural change that we're not quite sure how to tackle on a large scale. One problem is processed food. If you make food with fresh

Oddly enough, a video game quote (Deus Ex) sums it up quite well: "A system organized around the weakest qualities of individuals will produce these same qualities in its leaders." Replace "leaders" with "bankers" or whatever you'd like. Gr

The amazing thing about Google Chrome dev releases is that they're unusually stable. Occasionally a tab will crash, but thanks to the multi-process architecture I barely even notice that I'm using the dev release.
