Do you have a source on that? Consoles are usually loss leader type products and bring more recognition than money. There's a reason the systems are so cheap.

Good point. When you buy an Android phone you're forced to put custom roms and new bootloaders on it. The phones do not work without doing all that.

this is not true at all. All modern routers use a combination of ASICs and CPUs. some of the data plane even runs through the CPU, depending on the protocol. also, TCP segmentation offload does not mean that the entire TCP protocol is offlo

Yes, most large data centers use bigger frames internally. it's only when you get past the cgnat router that they go back to the compatible sizes.

this article is missing one of the main points for not going much larger. The larger you go, the more data you have to resend on a retransmit. Ethernet doesn't have fragmentation, so you can't simply resend a piece of it. in other

I think the writing was poor, but also there are some things that are just wrong. Like most of the time people sample at 10x Nyquist. That would be a huge waste of processing given that it doesn't give you any more information about th

SpaceX was lucky to get an award for RDOF at all given that when they applied there was virtually no evidence that they could serve what they promised, and the FCC even made a special stipulation for constellations that did not exist/w

I think you are missing/ignoring most of the history of starlink. You can look at my post history to read more if you'd like. Virtually everything starlink had promised from the start has turned out to either be lies or missed the

keep in mind that at the time the FCC allowed them past the first round of RDOF, they did not know the price of the terminal since StarLink wasn't live. part of their complaint was that the user had to buy a $600 terminal with no subsi

Yes, and dvbs-2 also supports very high modulation and code rates. but they're never used in practice since PSD limits don't allow you to transmit that much due to interference on other systems. starlink is not first in line for m

That's the thing, they don't make a lot of money. there was a WSJ article a few years back that showed they absolutely need StarLink to expand that full capacity very early to be profitable. there are not making enough money on la

this is quite the conspiracy theory. I'm not sure why musk fans say that the FCC is acting egregious here when they are doing the same exact thing they have done for decades. musk fans just don't want the same standards applied to

they have spent an immense amount of money and time on fcc filings for spectrum. this is a mixture of asking for spectrum, proving they're not interfering, and trying to beat kuiper and others to market.
