1) Talent. The more engineers are familiar with Llama, PyTorch, and the likes, the easier it is to find ML talent for Meta. 2) Free research and innovation that Meta can readily copy for their needs. 3) They don’t really give up any power.

I think the time is not necessarily the issue. The issue is that everything is very manual and “analog” in Germany. You have to find a notary, register the “Gewerbe” at the Gewerbeamt, get a tax ID, and so forth. All are different processes

Just try it. It just a lot more convenient and results are great. 1. Put rice in 2. Put water in. 3. Press a button. 4. Come back whenever you want (exact duration doesn‘t matter since a good rice cooker will keep the rice warm and moist)
