It's not ridiculous but I think it wasn't very well presented. The argument isn't that everyone should have a PhD. That wasn't even mentioned. Access to higher education was mentioned but that means college in this context (most likely even

This is democracy in action. If the bills don't get passed now, we must remain vigilant to them being buried in later legislation.

I really like it. I think it's clean, modern a nice color palette and an improvement over the previous version. Nice work DDG!

This is encouraging news and a sign that the pressure from all camps opposed to PIPA and SOPA is having the desired effect. Keep up the fight!

To be "that guy" this is not at all a new area. CFengine is almost 20 years old and certainly wasn't the first bit of software to try and solve the problem. There is definitely a lot of room for improvement.

There is probably a need for a more targeted promise lib for EL/Debian that does some of the simple stuff out of the box. However, it's a slippery slope because part of the problem with the configuration management domain is the mindset you

The main point of the article is true. All configuration management software is lacking in some regard. However, the article ignores the fact that configuration management systems are focused on a much wider swath of OS support than RHEL an

Can you provide any sort of insight into what will make twitter profitable? I'm not asking for numbers or anything, just some idea as to what will make it a long lasting, sustainable business with a real business model? You're original post

Sure, discovery outside the standard model would be bigger news, but this is still very exciting, imo, for a few reasons. It shows that the LHC has real value and is working. It shows that the science is right and now it's been confirmed. I

This is one of the first apps I've seen using all these "hot" frameworks that would be worth something to a broad IT audience. Very cool.

I've had a TM1 license for a while now and I'll definitely be giving TM2 a shot. Last time I tried Sublime Text 2 there was a complete lack of a subversion plug-in (that I could find). Has that changed? If not then it's a no go.

The cloud became the new hot thing and lots and lots of people, sites, enterprises jumped on board. Need to quickly deploy code without any understanding of how infrastructure works? Great, the cloud solves your problem! Who needs experienc

There is a distinction of trusted and untrusted, but I wasn't implying a trust by default method because that's not good either. I also wasn't trying to imply that a vetted device is necessarily a trusted device. For example, we allow Black

This reads as a very ignorant article and doesn't even come close to addressing the issues that are faced by enterprise IT teams. As soon as you let users bring their own devices (whatever they are) onto your corporate network your security

There was a very good and very detailed talk given by Tony Cass from CERN at the LISA 2010 conference. The talk gives a much more in-depth look at the environment at the LHC. The link below has the audio, video and slides from the talk. Loo

This is exactly the sort of thing HP needs to do. If they want the TouchPad (and Veer and Pre3) to be successful as well as compete in the "cloud" offering space with Apple they need a service like this. The app imports your iTunes library

Aside from the the hardware and the OS, the most exciting part of the announcement is how HP is using their sizable scale and distribution channels to get the touchpad into the 4 of the top brick and mortar retailers. It will make it far mo

As pointed out already, there is a thriving startup scene in the Boston area. I think some of the "knocks" Vivek Wadhwa makes about SV being "more failure-cherishing, more risk-taking, better capitalised" are either not good things or not r

A way to have a real time conversation with someone on the internet? What a novel concept. I guess IRC and the litany of instant messaging protocols didn't fit the need here. Hooray for re-inventing the wheel.
