Robert Pirsig has some words to say on this. If the idea of pursuing quality intrigues you it might be worth your time to take a read through his books, "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" and "Lila".

I keep seeing this come up. I don't think Gmail has ever been noticeably "slow" for me. Which leaves me wondering, what do people mean when they say "Gmail is slow"? Searches take a long time? Delays in sending/receiving mail? Unresponsive

Probably looked at relationship status changes. I'd personally be interested in seeing the opposite -- i.e., peaks in people starting relationships, as well as the inter-arrival periods of relationships.

I once had Cleverbot and an ELIZA clone "talk" to each other. After a few back and forth exchanges, Cleverbot spit out this: Eliza clone: What does that suggest to you? Cleverbot: A program like Eliza.

Not sure what the Ideapads use for wifi, but there is an issue with the iwlagn driver (what my Thinkpad X61 uses) that disables 802.11n modes. Not a problem if you're using not using 802.11n, but something to be aware of. Check the release

I remember when I first visited Google a friend of mine who worked there very excitedly showed this to me. I was terribly unimpressed because at the time I was interning at the Jet Propulsion Lab and I had already seen their version of this

That last one is awesome -- thanks for pointing that out to me. To add one I haven't seen on here yet, Switchy!, which lets you quickly switch proxy settings under Chrome. It supports SOCKSv5, which last I had checked before I started using

Certainly a change of heart -- we were trying to host an AGPL project on Google Code in 2008 and were told to find a new host or face deletion. There was a discussion that got a bit heated in fact, with with Chris DiBona at one point callin

I'm glad danah took the time to write this; it's a compelling point particularly given her strong background in social factors and gender on the internet. But I really wish she hadn't re-purposed the term ISP to refer to Craigslist.

A proper date picker for the date field would be good. Also, it took me a second to figure out you could edit the whole thing (if it hadn't been a Tell HN type thing, I would have bounced). I like this idea, and the interface. Lots to do ob
