That's also probably true of Nintendo. I doubt the hardware has anywhere close to the revenue margins of the games themselves, or licensing games. I think the real point in the original comment was that "serious" business is unlikely to bui

Even if Github's implementation was misconfigured at first the right thing would be to inform them, wait for the fix and _then_ blog about how to do it successfully. Posting zero day exploits is not big or clever. Github's public transition

I probably have a different perspective on this than a lot of the Americans having lived my whole life in the UK until a couple of years ago when I moved out to San Francisco. I think my issue with this essay, and a lot of the politics I he

I wrote a short essay ( http://kid666.com/2009/12/15/your-users%E2%80%99-mental-mode... ) about this for "Designing Social Interfaces" ( http://www.amazon.com/Designing-Social-Interfaces-Principles... ) by Christian Crumlish and Erin Malone

I think Google are actually really brave to do this and I for one am proud of them. Lots of corporate companies keep around products in zombie states for years because they are afraid of shutting stuff down and upsetting customers. Google p

I think your conclusions in the article are fair. I think the title on HN is misleading because it's a quantitive issue. V8 GC is a well known concern in the Node community, but it's still performing well enough that Node is considerably fa

I think the editorializing of the headline is unnecessarily negative (read biased). There is obviously an issue Ryan is working on addressing but Node is clearly already providing performance which is suitable for many server workloads.

I talked with Brendan Eich in New York after JSConf.eu and he was suggesting they might be looking at porting the V8 API to Jägermonkey after they release it so that it can run Node.

I think the author has a valid point, but I disagree with his tone. I feel like those of us who were speaking about this early on always said that the browser would be the constraint. This is why Yahoo has been working on using YUI3 in Node

Yes. It's been explicitly stated on our blog and on the YQL page that it's not going away. Specifically we've promised a minimum of 6mo notice if we ever did decide to shut it down.

I also made a YQL table for HackerNews a while back which should be as polite to the site as possible. http://developer.yahoo.com/yql/console/?q=select%20*%20from%... YQL implements a bunch of caching layers so it should tread as lightly

I'm surprised no-one has mentioned monofur yet. http://eurofurence.net/monofur.html It's my favourite programming font because it's extremely readable but retails a little flare.
