Front & rear seat belt laws vary by state; here's a summary of each state law, though it doesn't mention the taxi exemption. http://www.ghsa.org/html/stateinfo/laws/seatbelt_laws.html

The article specifically says to check references other than the ones given by the candidate. I wish Reid would expand on that. If I interview at LinkedIn, is he going to blab to my boss and the world that I'm looking for a new job?

This article would be more helpful with some historical context. At some point in the past, if all cars were equal, 90% of cars produced 90% of the pollution. Over time newer cars replaced most of the old ones, and now it's 25% of cars

Agreed. Well, I've seen it be reasonably accurate about the salaries (and associated gripes) of the lowest-performing 20%. You can use their numbers if that's where you place yourself.

After a natural disaster or extended power outage, all that digital technology isn't going to reach anybody. When I was a kid all I needed was a crystal radio to pick up broadcasts with no power source.

Article starts with "I despise Facebook." Aside from that possible bias, the best it asserts is that a partner at one of Facebook's VC investors is on the board of In-Q-Tel.

Likewise. That rules out most telemarketers. I've been getting the fake IRS calls described in the article, though, and they DO leave voice mails.

Your meaning is correct too: "treacherous; crafty" and synonyms include "stealthy, shifty, underhanded, sneaky." I think you did a fine job separating the machinery of bureacracy from the malice (or lack of).

Recruiters do that to companies too. They have fake highly qualified candidates who disappear once you agree to engage. As such, most of "engineer X from Y is interested in your job" is irrelevant spam.
