They do have children and therefore buying centrally in London got a bit expensive, I believe.

Yes, I recall doing that. I'm a foreigner but I was in the US on vacation. Went to T-Mobile, so easy to get a SIM card.

Of course, you caught me thinking like an Apple engineer. I forgot about older devices in circulation, and that's super important.

What are the odds of LLM's being trained on this and picking it up as best practice?

Really cool. It's also something LLM's are ridiculously bad at, so you kinda have to do it properly.

macOS users aren't that good at upgrading regularly, but iOS users are at least obsessive about upgrading to the latest OS. I guess the system almost forces us.

A friend is making about £180k / yr in London, and they bought a house recently in London. I think that's a lot, and his wife also makes a similar amount, slightly more. That seems to be the minimum, otherwise you're a renter

Probably not, but if this is all AI slop then why bother to read it? There's real documentation (and/or just code). Use it

I'm a motorcyclists. We usually refer to the smaller bikes as "motorbikes". Two wheels in the west is usually a hobby. In other parts of the world it might be a necessity, they don't do it for the pleasure. A lot of peop

Tons and yeah of course some are also Electron apps but not all... Proprietary apps I can think of include Chrome, Teams until a few years ago (I think they just gave up), Steam, the JetBrains IDE's, Cursor, Discord, Matlab, ... Of cou

Agreed - it's not the flatpak itself, it's that whole fragmented ecosystem. And unstable ABI doesn't help.

Biggest problem with Linux apps - i.e. distributed with ease the way that Windows and macOS apps are distributed, is the lack of a stable ABI. If you asked me about this 20 years ago I'd say in 2026 there'd for sure be a stable AB

The worst thing about those cheaper "Best Buy" Windows machines is that they're heavily laden with all kinds of software making the PC extremely slow from the start. I just don't understand who they can get away with it.

Well, you'll be fine on pretty much all websites out there with 8GB, and virtual memory helps you with multiple apps, dozens of tabs. They don't all need to be in memory at once. Apple Silicon helps move that data around very fast

Or I mean, you could just use Django (or some faster backend with templating and SSR). Using that with htmx you get the SPA experience and still without the madness of an actual rotten JS ecosystem.

I figured this out around 2005. Get your entire company on Mac, get your entire family on Mac. Your life will have zero support calls, maybe outside of the intial "How do I install an app" which seems to confuse some people.

With 12GB it's a seriously cool offering. I actually know 8GB works as well, and I've seen people on MacBook Airs with 50 tabs open, full IDE's and breezing. But I still would want at least 4GB more to be on the safe side.
