True, but signatures help statically verify that side-effects can't happen at a call site, giving you reassurances that it's non-side-effecting. Same with referential transparency, I believe.

This solves (or at least attempts to solve) one of the biggest problems I had about Om. We bent over backwards to get global visibility for tooling, pretty much sacrificing encapsulation entirely, because it was so important for building th

Wow, that was a pretty surprising video. The audience's reaction especially surprised me. While maybe not quickly enough, times have certainly changed.

A lot of these lyft/uber/sidecar-are-falling-apart stories remind me of http://www.paulgraham.com/submarine.html . This may or may not be the case, but certainly the thought pops into my mind.

There are still some huge hurdles to overcome for working on large projects & medium-size teams with designers. Nothing insurmountable, but a lot of polish that still needs to be put into (re-)usable infrastructure, tooling, and polish.

I believe Haskell compilers are pretty amenable to stuff like this - watching "Data Parallel Haskell", it was interesting to see how they actually map out contiguous memory, etc. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWS

Why do you need mutability for that? Doesn't LT's approach give the same flexibility without the need for mutation everywhere? Or is it mainly a concern of performance?

Quasar is an amazing piece of engineering work, and I really don't understand how pron has been able to do so much in such a relatively short period of time (including insights into the ideas and implementation).

I've been diving into Haskell more lately from the Clojure/Script world, and it has a lot to admire. There's so much about it that's daunting though. Is there an analogy for what this pulls off that the poor common-fp-pr

I would love to see a comparison of the ideas behind Datomic and Irmin - they're actually seem quite different, but a blog comparing the two could really help clear things up and frame the tasks they're both suited for.

One of the big issues we've been struggling with is getting large ClojureScript data structures with tons and tons of structural sharing (think application state history) 1.) small enough to transmit to the server 2.) for efficient sto

I don't think it'd be a huge issue in any case, probably just a case of providing a handler for name conversions. Not sure if it's worth the extra code lying around, but anything that potentially makes cljs a better actor in

Web workers are atrocious though. They're very strangely hobbled by either requiring a serialize->deserialize round-trip when passing data back and forth, or you can sidestep it by 'transferring' the object across contexts

I didn't think that was your suggestion, but I agree with Turing_Machine re: compiling to JS. It's only a slightly more insane API to the VM than x86 is to the internal instruction set on a CPU, anyway. Weird machines all the way
