It looks like they get up to a 26% increase in the static case. And for NAS they perform about as well (1.015x) as LLVM.

That is interesting. Do have any idea if that figure includes research done by/for the military? I could not determine that from the Wiki page and it seems like if it does not that could push the US ahead.

This was worth the read just to discover text.npr.org. Much better on mobile than their app for me.

To be fair for textbooks at least I often see several results but often of different editions (1x edition 1, 2x edition 2, 1x edition 3 etc.). In some cases I think it's worthwhile keeping the different additions around, unless it beco

I feel like the bigger problem than the electoral college is the senate. I think it’s pretty crazy California and Texas have the same number of senate votes as Rhode Island. It made sense at the time and we do have a house to nominally bala

Honestly feel like most software we use fits this description. Programming languages, libraries, operating systems, drivers. Feels like you’d have a harder time naming software that doesn’t fit this description than that which does.

I think the course described above might be a better fit for an intro survey course at the college level. Or as an upper level elective course for high schoolers. You can select for people for are actually interested, and you’re really just

I think different people use it differently. Certainly a lot of people use it to postpone dealing with stuff. I do think it’s possible to use it as a tool to help you deal with stuff though, and I think that’s what the person I was replyin

For the two examples you listed I think they work because they imply that the article has some quick tips to “level up” as a developer. Either by adding a new and powerful tool to their belt, or by dispelling some previous false notion they

Both things change how you think temporarily. I think they both do so in such a way that you can identify and emotionally deal with stuff that would otherwise remain unresolved.

Definitely with Quantum there seems to be a huge advantage to having it but convincing everyone that you don't. I think we can move towards quantum proof crypto, but it won't happen until we are convinced someone can spy on us if

I think a big part of that is there are too many people inherently interested in doing science. In fact there are already a lot more grads coming out with science degrees than there are jobs, and math is even worse. Although these positions

I'm in a similar boat. I actually like Matlab's plotting a lot more than Matplotlib, but I use python for everything these days. So for me I use Matplotlib for really quick visualizations (usually just plt.plot()), and if I want t

This is great news. Jupyter has become my default tool for prototyping code. I keep trying other platforms that should theoretically have the same features, but I just find Jupyter much more pleasant to use.

Under appreciated by people just now getting into time series regression, who may be really excited about throwing deep learning at the problem. Edit: literally saw this happen two weeks ago by a PhD in electrical engineering.

I think also they see that the gap between bootcamp grads or smart college dropouts and a masters in CS is not necessarily that large, and assume the same is true for other fields when that is pretty rarely the case.
