The width of the column and the number of columns are two completely independent things. You can have a single, thin (the ideal size is about 10-12 words) column sitting in the center of the page. You don't need to stick another column next

I have to say that I'm a little bit baffled by things like this or recent updates to Flipboard that introduce "features" that I can't imagine anybody asking for. Why show articles in a grid instead of a list? A list makes the hierarchy clea

Agreed. I can't really think of any use case where a user would need to include a complex drawing with multiple text fields, shapes, colors, etc. just to report a problem.

Turns out Photoshop is even more powerful than what you'd think: I created an action to automate the whole process with any photo. You can download it here: http://cl.ly/BwdO (By the way, little known fact: you can actually script Photosh

That was a mistake on my part. I didn't realize that "mosaic" would introduce unnecessary shades of grey in the mix. This comment explains the problem: http://www.attackofdesign.com/how-to-build-a-portrait-with-d... And you can also check

I thought it was interesting to see a different solution to the same problem (see: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=3254392 ). The developer thinks "let's write some code!", but the designer thinks "let's use Photoshop!"…

I'm a designer, and this got me wondering if it was possible to achieve the same effect using Photshop. Turns out it's actually possible, so I wrote a quick tutorial: http://www.attackofdesign.com/how-to-build-a-portrait-with-d...

I would say the visa problem is probably the biggest contributor to the current lack of available developer talent. If the US ever relaxes its visa laws, I foresee a big drop-off in the demand for recruiters…

It seems that every week there's a couple posts complaining about recruiters these days. It's one of the reasons why I've launched my own site to try and improve recruiting (for designers, at least): http://folyo.me

As a designer who's launching his own business ( http://folyo.me ), I can certainly identify with this. But I also know that it's easy to be blinded by the new entrepreneur's enthusiasm and see the world through rose-colored glasses. Whethe
