Honestly, I understand not agreeing with the direction they're going in, but that doesn't mean they don't know what they're doing. Maybe we're just not the target market for all these apps?

That was a good article, thanks. But I guess I'm giving Apple the benefit of the doubt: although I personally agree that some of their designs are tacky and over the top, I trust them enough to assume they have their reasons.

Why not just have optional pro accounts that people can get for a fee? "Pro" tags would be a quick way to make "serious" posters visually distinctive.

I think Zenbox is part of a trend of aggregating and consolidating data. It's crazy how much information is duplicated and dispersed between all the services we use, so I think it's great that some companies are starting to bring everything

Nice effect! These kind of effects always seem kind of pointless at first, until a company like Instagram comes around and almost defines their whole product around them (same with Pinterest and the Masonry layout). I'm sure very cool thing

I think you always need a phase of experimenting new ideas before people find out what works and what doesn't. Ideally, those failed experiments would stay in-house and never reach the market, but it's not always easy to know which ideas ar

I'm very afraid of Scoutzie, that's what I think of them! They're a very close competitor with more resources and YC backing, and their execution is better than mine for a lot of things. But we'll see, as long as Folyo clients and designers

I'm somewhat in the same space with Folyo ( http://folyo.me ), and I know it's not an easy market. But Workfu was one of the competitors I was most impressed with. They had a great team and great execution, so I hope they find a way to pull

This headline does seem unusually misleading. I already came across this site 10 days ago, it doesn't seems like it was "launched" in any fashion? And it's not by Yehuda Katz, and also doesn't seem like a HN "competitor" since it probably d

I use the lowest brightness setting for the iPad, doesn't mess up too much with my sleep that way. But I'm still thinking about getting a Kindle for that reason.

This is a small nit-pick, but I feel like the word "design" gets thrown around a lot these days, until it doesn't even mean anything anymore. I would expect a "design trick" to be using color, contrast, or typography to achieve a result. If

Yes, but as far as I can tell the two settings are not for the Google UI and the Google Search Results (which would make sense). They're for Some Google Products (i.e. Google Plus) and Google Search (both UI and search results). I might be

I am well aware of this, but Arc doesn't seem like a very popular language.. I could adapt Lamernews I suppose, I'll have to look into it. But in any case, the customisations I have in mind will probably require some outside coding help.

How about http://methodandcraft.com/ ? The thing is, there's no such thing as "website design centric" techniques in Photoshop, except maybe the effects palette (but you can learn 90% of that just by playing around with the options). The e
