Bare-metal management isn’t custom, it’s just not cloud. A TFTP server, your choice of confirmation management, your choice of image builder, probably - but not necessarily - a hypervisor, and that’s pretty much it. This stuff isn’t hard, a

I have never, ever seen dev-created infra that was well done, much less with repeatable IaC. It’s always résumé-driven nonsense based on whatever someone read on blogs, and they have no clue how any of it works, only that the output what th

The issue is that precious few devs are actually good at ops. There are a ton of abstractions that have sprung up that attempt to paper over this, and they all suck for various reasons. If you think you need to actually know your programmin

Not saying those things don’t happen, but having worked with on-prem for 2 years, and having ran ancient (13 years old currently) servers in my homelab for 5 years, I’ve never seen them. Bad CPU, bad RAM, yes - and modern servers are extrem

Bosch 800-series dishwashers are amazing . I’ve bought one at every house I’ve lived at, regardless of what’s installed. They’re quiet, they get everything clean no matter what, and they dry without a heating element, and without popping t

IMO, all of those make logical sense. If you’re inserting a line break or literal line, it can be thought of as a 1-dimensional object, which cannot enclose anything. If you want another one, insert another one. In contrast, paragraphs and

I hesitate to want any changes, but I could maybe get behind dynamic font sizing. Maybe. On mobile it’s fine, on Mac with a Retina display it’s fine; the only one where it isn’t is a 4K display rendering at native resolution - for that, I h

Update: I asked my wife, she said that without other context, it sounded like the school may not be “following the child,” a core tenet of Montessori. She said that while they might steer a new student away from that initially, if they’re c

I’m sorry you’ve had that experience. My kids’ Montessori school has a playground, athletic field, and butts up against woods, which they regularly go into for activities. One of the classes actually spends most of their time outside - weat

I’m by far not an expert on it (my wife is, she teaches Montessori), but AFAIK what you observed was because it isn’t viewed as play, but as work - as in school work. All of the activities are called “works,” and they’re taken very seriousl

There are a few K-12 Montessori schools, but not many. My wife is a primary (3-5 year olds) at the only one in our state. My kids are in 2nd and 4th grade, and we intend to see it through. They love it.

Yes, it’s the ephemerality that’s the biggest issue. Enterprise-grade SSDs are quite reliable, and typically have PLP so even in the event of a sudden power loss, any queued writes that the drive has accepted - and thus ack’d the fsync() -
