My friend used to clip a dragon from the ren-fest onto his ear. Thinking like that you could clip a camera onto your ear and dashcam your life into the cloud. Hardware-wise its got be a camera, bluetooth (pair w/ phone for cloud acces

Modern benches and even parks have anti-homeless features. iirc some park in Minneapolis removed their basketball courts because black people would congregate there (also there was drug-dealing). In USA its spend money or get out. https:&

It has a built-in gating function. People who are out-of-shape or with injuries will opt-out. Bouldering favors slim people. On the other hand, I think gating functions are necessary to build community. Often gating-functions are accomp

Maybe an hour at the gym followed by some social event. You would have a spotter for your benchpress and some shared purpose.

Seems like search will disappear completely. I used ChatGPT to find a coffee table that was exactly 58-inches long (and iirc with other characteristics), google search and amazon/wayfair internal search had completely failed at this t

I had a prompt for this. It works perfectly well, but its not sticky or engaging enough somehow. I think if you could interact with other real people, or if it interacted with a game engine somehow (i'm thinking something like Myst)

Dashcam of your life to feed into an AI. But, where to put the cameras? Glasses seems likely.

I had some ideas around QR codes on business cards. The concept was you have to actually meet someone in real-life and then the friend you just met scans the QR code and your in the same network; QR code could be purely digital of course,

The more consequential the failure, the more rigorous the software engineering. afaik Space/Rocketry/Medicine consists of rigorous engineering, because the failure modes end in death.

If you think ww3 might come (seems reasonably likely, esp starting with Korea), most of the action will be in the Northern Hemi. So maybe Uruguay.

Isn't everything already virtualized? Books, encyclopedias, movies, music; you can even recreate your living room/office setup in VR (which apparently works well enough for some people). What's left?

If you distributed the $19 to the people who did actually show up... you would actually get people to show up... maybe there's some kind of business plan embedded in your comment.

This is the best comment about meetups of all time One thing I found strange about SF is that I never found a group that would do the weekly hang. The weekly hang is a socially porous experience, it has a fixed location and fixed start time

That's more or less the idea, the actual mechanism is an implementation detail. You could host the messages yourself, or instruct people to update their hn_bio or RSS feed which will sometimes have messages like this : hnmeet@present_

Something along the lines of a tweet 'will be programming @starbucks for next 4 hours' ... then if people are in the mood they can spontanously join up. I think this would help bootstrap the more scheduled meetups.
