Competent people are perpetually looking for change and new ways to express themselves. However, they are looking for meaningful change, not for the kind of pseudo-change that marketing buffoons like Seth Godin thrive on.

Why is Seth Godin's stream of consciousness posted here so frequently? What he writes is not coherent, not noteworthy in any way and is below the level of an average comment on HN.

It is strange that up to now there have been virtually no comments about privacy issues in this thread. It is clear to me that for a company in the advertising business the prime reason to release a browser is to improve data mining. If, sa

Well said. I got the impression in this thread that some AI researchers are trying to beat physics into shape so that it would support certain views favorable to AI. [This is not to say that those researchers are unintelligent, just that a

Personally, I find the design very elegant. I would hate to see changes (apart from the font color issue, if some readers have problems with that).

I don't understand two things: a) If the film school is a college, couldn't your roommate get expelled for cheating? b) Would not the college own the IP anyway?

The first LISP interpreters were indeed flawed, see the 1995 footnote in Mc Carthy's famous paper. This is not uncommon when inventing something new. Do you blame Edison for not using wolfram in his first light bulb?

Starbucks does not make superior products. The core product, coffee, is absolutely horrible. When you order an espresso you'll taste that the coffee they use is cheap over-roasted junk provided by the lowest bidder. I agree though that - li

A lot on that page is written in a highly polemic style, a good example is the 2004 March 16 entry. I wouldn't call him naive, but his general political attitude does seem overly hawkish.

The title of the list is a gross misnomer. Half of the people on the list are political activists of some sort. Take Barenboim. Why is he an intellectual? He is a fantastic pianist, a (IMHO) mediocre conductor and an activist for peace in t

Mod the parent up! For serious discussions, mailing lists and Usenet are far superior to _any_ web forum. I certainly would not mind reading this site in a newsreader.

I do not see anything particularly cheap in what they are selling. I have three PCs assembled from "cheap" components that run fine for over 8 years. I haven't seen recent Apple products, but the original iMac was a piece of overpriced chea
