Unpopular opinion, but I suspect this is actually how a lot of hedge funds have historically outperformed the markets. The amount of nonpublic data needed to get an edge is surprisingly small.

I do think someone should taste it to validate whether it just tastes "dusty" as before.

Not sure I agree with you here. I use LLMs all the time for work. I've never once used a space agency for anything.

There's an element of using these systems that people don't usually discuss. One of the forks, Sunnypilot, enables a mode where you control the pedals but don't have to do the steering. What I've found is you do pay atte

Bleh you're right. I meant the 70B model. I think there's some other context where the number 200 makes sense. Thanks for the correction.

I worked at Yahoo some time ago -- a run-off tech company if there ever was one. And you should have seen the turf battles. Astonishing.

We've started using meta.ai and the 200B llama model on a couple servers we run at my company. I really have to go with Zuckerberg's approach on this one. I'm not sure OpenAI and Anthropic really have anything that can't

As a friend of mine says: When clear paths to grow a business diminish, organizations devolve into turf wars. Sounds like that's what's happening here.

Isn't the parsimonious explanation just that Google knows GenAI puts a ton of ad revenue at risk and therefore didn't want it to get commercialized?

Right. Just charge a low fee, or attach it to Prime somehow. I'd pay for sure.

Is there an actual open-source community around this in the spirit of other ones where people outside meta can somehow "contribute" to it? If I wanted to "work on" this somehow, what would I do?

I use windows, mac and linux basically interchangeably for coding. For windows, I install the Git Bash package [ https://gitforwindows.org/ ] and then just use chocolatey as a package manager for stuff like python and node.js

If you want to see a weird process, apply for a dev role at Meta. They appear to optimize for people who have either memorized leetcode or are really good at cheating. I’m in their process as a pretty senior dev mostly on a lark (I hate the

People should try to find interventions that work. If masks worked reliably, and there were evidence behind that, I'd be a big supporter. There is _better_ evidence around N95 masks in hospital settings. But that's not the typical

Yes, these are all valid points. One question would be, given that masks likely have little effect, what should governments do? My view would be they should not encourage such an intervention, as it lowers faith in institutions, which is mo

Where I live (Alameda County, California), people were required by law to wear a mask outdoors when within 30 feet of another person. This was not merely a "suggestion" and it was enforced. My decision about ebola would be based o

The mask thing was all theater and political logrolling. Beyond it being anti-science, three other concerning factors: * It decreased trust in government by backing a policy that most now understand wasn't science-based. * It increased

People who live in Tahoe would love to have a word with you about how terrible the typical Tesla driver is during ski season, but ok. For snow driving, you're going to want something more practical, and snow tires.

I don't understand the value of the charging network. Who drives 400 miles in a day? It's much more efficient to either have access to a gasoline car when that's necessary or just rent one for $50 a day.

Is there really any reason to buy a Tesla if you want an EV other than as a status symbol? I bought a lightly used Chevy Bolt which, after rebates cost me $8000. Its range is around 230 miles. Why are people paying $40k for cars?

Replying to say that I literally don't know if I'm being downvoted for negating left-wing or right-wing orthodoxies. The world is so confusing nowadays.
