Don't upgrade unnecessarily. Then you won't get backdoored by xz releases. Same security industry convinces you to upgrade every 15 seconds and then sells you solutions for when those upgrades fuck you over.

Sorry to hear that experience. I've come to discount any form of flattery in intro emails. E.g. when a FAANG recruiter emails me "wow, we were impressed by your public project!", I used to believe it. Now I know it's jus

I don't worry about where my distro package manager installs files. Some install methods are outside of your package manager, but try to touch /usr or /opt or /var, like NVIDIA sh scripts and the likes.

You're 100% correct. So many stories of very successful musicians (metal guitarists, etc.) that have a knack for making music people like. I view this thing as a "skill-reward" ratio. If you're a mediocre guitarist and y

Can you be more clear about what you're hinting at here? Is it that the companies listed (SiriusXM, Boeing, Home Depot, VMWare, Draft Kings) don't have money to waste anymore because they're not doing well financially?

Do you count financial reward under recognition? Lot of places are generous with non-financial recognition but stingy with the monetary recognition.

I realize asking for a new 4.0 release is fair (and the GitLab issue does have a highly upvoted request for a release). But you can't just call things "dead" for no reason, it's in poor taste. It's feature-complete,
