>TypeScript never set out to build a separate, distinct, and prescriptive language. Instead, TypeScript had to be descriptive. Sadly, the majority of people writing Typescript rarely care about descriptive and readable code these days. S

That sounds like it can/should be solved using reusable parts of a design system though.

I can't think of a use case where I'd need to copy someone else's (probably messy) CSS. I assume this is aimed at beginners?

You can tell this was written when design-thinking jargon was at its peak. The retelling of Rams' "10 principles" is always funny to me because he never "set out" to write those rules. For the uninitiated, here'

I think micro-commits would make me overthink my commit messages even more. I'd love to keep snapshots of my code in different stages, but without having to put a label on X part of Y feature at Z stage.

>It's not open source, and "maybe it will eventually be" is unacceptable for such a core component of an engineer's workflow. That's a huge overstatement. What's unacceptable about it (or any other software

I had the same thought. Property inheritance could be a more specific description though?

Really excited for this. Looks like what I wanted/expected Nova to be. Still sticking to Sublime for now though.

Simula67 was already known in academic circles by the early 70s. Donald Knuth had first taken an interest in Simula I after a visit in Oslo but couldn't manage to bring it to Stanford because of the very high licensing fees the Norwegi

Too bad Kay has never paid enough tribute to Nygaard and Dahl in the same manner. His comments from that '97 OOPSLA talk on Simula being incomprehensible are absurdly misleading.

My intro to Alexander was also through Notes on the Synthesis of Form, though personally I found it to be really antiquated. Shortly after I found out he distanced himself from a lot of the design methodology work he did in the 60s: >‘Th

Obviously not for server code. Example: serve 'src/app.js' uncompressed during development, and 'assets/app.min.js' during production.

Deno is a joy to use server-side. Though as soon as it's used in conjunction with even something simple like minified code, you're forced back to node/npm.

I'm a big fan of Panic but I really hope they tone down the quirkyness of the UI. I don't mind the diagonal dividers, but the icons look like Tide pods of different shapes and colors.

Really looking forward to start using cascade layers. Hopefully it'll encourage the community to work closer to pure CSS and leave behind some of the madness out there like CSS-in-JS or Svelte's scoped styles.

One reason tech talks are specially boring to me is that the vast majority are about tooling/implementation, instead of topics/ideas. Another is that a surprisingly (to me) amount of people who do these talks do it just for conten

If you're on macOS I would also recommend Black Light [ https://michelf.ca/projects/black-light/ ] which lets you add all kinds of color filters to individual (or all) screens.
