Imo it’s a little more scary if you imagine this being exploited on many machines. You could push “approved” code

Llvm has a lot of tutorial style docs. I’d recommend starting with the official llvm website

I disagree with the title but found myself agreeing with many points in the article. “Don’t be condescending” seems like generally applicable advice. But IMO, sometimes you just know something the code submitter doesn’t (or vise versa) and

I distinctly remember reading this book in high school and being shocked at the end. In retrospect I guess that’s a sign it was a good book.

Kind of an interesting comparison. According to Wikipedia, virtu is about 1/8 the size. But other than headcount and apparently market cap they seem fairly close by the numbers.

I didn’t know Ruby did this - cool. I agree it’s not the most robust way to write a jit, but it’s prob the easiest

One underrated way to jit is to write some code, spawn a compiler, then link to a shared object. Takes 2 mins to write and sidesteps a lot of complexity

I think there’s a big difference which is that your computer is allowed to crash when one component breaks whereas a distributed system is typically more fault tolerant.

Maybe preference was the wrong word for me to use. “Reasoning” might make more sense? If comments don’t impact the code base or the people involved, then yeah they’re not useful.

This is a big factor. I’ve experimented with in person code reviews but it’s kind of annoying to organize. Definitely open to ideas on this front.

The article says some employees were assaulted. Wouldn’t it make more sense to arrest the perpetrators than sue the company ?? Not saying this is wrong but it seems like the perps are still out there.
