Hunches are/used to be a big part of police work. When you just know they're guilty, you're not going to let them get away with it if there's anything you can do.

Right. And how would you characterize the 4-dimensional extension, in terms of the first three? Or do you simply draw the line at two dimensions, figuring that's as much as anyone will ever need?

That's not the point. The attack relies on some nonconforming decoders exhibiting a many-to-one mapping of bitstreams to codepoints, changing the semantics of the bistream.

I wonder if it would suffice to highlight characters not found in the primary font. I don't know how, exactly, fonts fallthrough, but I doubt most fonts venture outside locales.

They've gone back and forth on this. It is a serious security issue, but for people who regularly use non-ascii characters, it's a usability issue. A blacklist might be a usable compromise, but I bet it would feel terribly confusing - in pa

On my keyboard, it's '-a, with ' in a place that's easy to hit accidentally, and since it's combining, it doesn't print. I suspect some layouts might have OPTION-a, which would be almost as easy a mistake to make.

No, I certainly do mean to regard matrices as a special case of vectors. While it's true that one rarely needs more than 3 dimensions to their array, I see no point in setting an upper limit.

I'd just like to point out that the application he architechts is for marketing, so it's not exactly unrelated. That said, I don't much mind either way.

I don't think you should consider vectors a special case of matrices - that makes tensors difficult to handle. The other way around generalizes better.

No, that's exactly what lead to these situations. If you choose the winning tickets first, the player may have access to observed numbers of winners or your potential filler algorithm. That information must be accounted for by the design.

It was recently argued that the initial assessment of the severity of the downturn was wildly off (by 4% of GDP), and that led to poor strategy formulation by Washington.

I'm under the impression that's not true. Looking at http://www.lpi.usra.edu/lunar/missions/clementine/images/ I see a smoother surface on the earth side. I also found on the Internet some paired images from different cameras, which of co

Yes. "Fail" as a noun is a widespread internet meme, that has shown enough longevity to potentially enter the lexicon permanently. This is language in the making.

I do some of my shopping in the corner store, and some in the nearby business cluster that has, among others, 4 supermarkets. I'd guess real estate, loyalty programs and product offerings outweigh proximity, in the case of foodstuffs.

There's more to pseudonyms than legal reasons. What I write on the internet stays there, and I expect people to google my real name, but I do not wish to have all of my lives linked together. For example, if I'd have to use my real name, I

The News of the World scandal going on now is, to some extent, about guessing the password. However, they were guessing passwords like 0000, which probably isn't quite what you had in mind.

The best thing about public transport in cities is that you don't need parking space. Hunting for parking space can easily take more time than you save by getting directly to your destination, and public parking can be quite expensive. That

Okay, I'll try to grasp at my thoughts again. Algebraically, 12 is not the same as 10+2. 12 is an element of, say, ℤ, while 10+2 is one of <+,ℤ²>. To make them interchangeable, we need to establish an equivalence relation. Given tha

The two-glyph thing is a matter of description length and parametrization. 10+2 is an expression, whereas 10 is also a constant that is the base of our number system. Thus, 10 carries more meaning than 12, even though both are constant - 10
