I was under the impression that metrics like this are too simple to tell the full story. Burning a gallon of ICE fuel at sea level has a different environmental impact than burning a gallon of jet fuel thousands of meters in the air. I thin

I wouldn't want my government to kill anyone on my behalf because my credit report was stolen. How about we start with securing our systems? Modernize identity and credit reporting, stop relying on social security numbers, etc.

That's good to know. ...But if you use an image with Google's sauce, there are Google daemons running on it, just not for this. https://cloud.google.com/compute/docs/images/install-guest-e...

I'm pretty sure this only works if you use images with Google's sauce added, which means your instances run Google daemons that do things like network, user, and ssh config.

What's the relationship of these values to the efficiency curve of the engines? I'm pretty sure best glide speed times 1.3 can be achieved with less than 90% thrust from the engines of a typical commercial airliner.

I'm strictly arguing with the point about engines being efficient at 90% thrust which is independent of wind.

Air resistance goes up by the square of the velocity, so it takes more and more thrust to go faster. The most efficient thrust per unit of speed is therefore somewhat less than the most efficient thrust per unit of fuel. I've only had

But entire populations don't mutate at once. If a virulent strain is active in thousands of people, it's going to be quite a while before the full impact of that epidemic is felt.

Wouldn't it be nice if we could measure this and find if there's a point where colder water doesn't provide a benefit, or rapidly diminishing returns? Wouldn't it be nice if there was evidence that 14C water conferred th

I wish people who told stories like this gave a little more context. Like where do you live? How chold does it get? Would you say your home is well insulated? Do you live in an apartment? Top post in this thread is someone claiming they use

"Filesystem as a service" can mean too many different things to technical people, that it's basically meaningless. Even if I was squarely in the target audience, if I saw that, I wouldn't necessarily know it applied to m

I think the target audience has business problems not file system problems. File system as a service doesn't tell me what business problems can be solved with this.
