I used to think like you but the rise of the extreme right wing (and extreme left wing) in Europe and the US has convinced me I was wrong. You're right a kid with a hundred dollars of hardware and an internet connection might be able t

I am increasingly worried that the combination of social media, AI generated text and deepfakes is the death knell of the beautiful dream that is democracy. If a massive amount of voters can easily be influenced by whoever is the least ethi

Yeah, I noticed, it's been rather annoying. Even fanficfare hasn't yet been updated to strip that.

Not sure why that was flagged. Comparing statistics between countries is always fraught because of different ways of measuring such statistics and I think this is a great example of how much of a difference measurement methods can make.

The Pocket integration with Kobo is really a godsend and why I end up using it way more than my kindle (despite prefering how the kindle Oasis feels in my hand)

The author starts by giving 6 tiny thumbnails 3 of which are fine and 3 of which are uncanny. I honestly don't see how the 3 marked as uncanny are uncanny. They also don't mention from which films/media those images are. I re

Ha! my dad celebrated my announcement by inviting me to a good restaurant. I would never have thought about hiding that from my parents and I had their full support to bring my girlfriend back to my room (and later for the night)

Ok, yeah as teen if I skipped any schedule things to go to a friend house, my parents wouldn't have batted an eye. Outside of school obligations, the rest was my own choice.

I mean, when people bring up unsupervised use of internet, I always remember that my first exposure to porn in the 90s was a site called animal sex farm (there was a list with leaked credentials for porn site that I stumbled into and that w

At least from discussions I've had over the years with my accountants, comply and evade are very different. Evasion is when you are doing something that's explicitly illegal. Optimization and compliance is when you comply with the

I was about to write the same comment but you expressed it much better. I would also be happy if it could be both an android tablet but have a monitor mode where it just becomes a monitor.

The problem is that to be able to make a purchasing decision toward repairability there must be actual choices that offer better repairability. That doesn't seem to be the case for phones unfortunately.

Oh yes, they've also done another game that's very much in the spirit of the old King's Quest. Order of the Thorne. The lead developer has chronic health problems unfortunately so that slows development by a lot. He has a pat

Conquest of the Longbow is a masterpiece. As a kid, I loved the fact that a lot of puzzles had multiple solutions. It was definitely not an easy adventure game though, I remember being stuck on some of the puzzles using gems and trees.

The King's Quest game from 2015 started out excellent with some great puzzles and felt like a modern King's Quest. Unfortunately the later chapters were much lighter in terms of puzzles. For Quest of Glory, I'd recommend Hero

I loved LOGO as a kid, my father was a teacher and he had a robotic LOGO turtle mounted with a pen that could be used to trace on A3 paper. Lot's of fun but that was more around 6 years old or so.
