I've had two options last time I negotiated, and I couldn't really tell which project would be better. It's really hard to tell from the outside when the people giving you answers about the good and bad aspects of the job are

What if you don't care about a McMansion? It's like a restaurant where they give you a 3-pound steak, but it tastes kinda crappy and you cannot box it. We have a 1300sqft house in HCOL and it still has a bunch of unused space; we

I make in the ballpark of these numbers for the last couple years, and while the giant stock grants have run out will still break or approach $300k for a few years I suspect. My take on this is as such... On the one hand, I have outrageous

One thing I definitely dislike are value/reference semantics, where arbitrary nested object structures are passed by value by default, but maps and slices are somehow magical and are passed by reference. I don't even care which on

The fact that you're talking about SSHing into dozen hosts and not e.g. pssh makes this whole story very suspect, or at least puts you into a category of "people who never really tried to get the most out of their terminal experie

I don't really care much for bells and whistles around the command line, as long as the command line is good (which it is, because it's Unix - I just wish they'd stop making changes so it won't crash). Yeah, I never real

Well, I've just left a company where I have been using Mac OS for 6 years. IT recommended that I don't use Linux because the drivers for the Mac hardware are supposedly buggy and slow... so I had to go on with Mac OS. I've ne

I think this is the other way around. With any reasonable safety net, eventually these people would need to take some jobs. And people with no rare/hard-to-acquire skills have to take jobs that do not require rare/hard-to-acquire

Heh, now that I got reminded of this... I had throat pain for 7-8 weeks or so after moving into an old house. It would go away when I was away from home. There's no obvious mold, dust, moisture etc. problem; so I was about to schedule

What about the solution where the quota is filled after ordering by salaries? With a provision that a salary cannot be lowered while on the visa, or re-ordering and re-filtering with combined quota including new workers every year (i.e. mix

To start, basically regardless of a person, money is time (at a certain standard of living). Too many people internalized working for money as something expected and/or inevitable... I'm not saying it's not normal, or unfair

That would be a valid position if all the investment into local amenities were at local level. We all pay taxes to build a light rail line, or pave the streets, or maintain the parks, or even create enough demand for shops/restaurants
