Interestingly, the way you pair it with the Mac is to plug it in. When you unplug it is magically paired. It was embarrassing how long it took me to figure this out the first time.

Electron 4 is end of life so that means many native node modules need a ton of rework to support node 10+. This is a pain point for electron app devs that rely on native modules for functionality. Time to roll up my C++ sleeves and spend we

I’m a full-stack hardware integrator. My consulting is mostly iOS + Bluetooth sensors, some node for edge IOT computing. My side hustle is Electron/React + USB label printers: https://label.live . If there’s someone out ther

Learning complex subjects is often uncomfortable. For me, college was the start of becoming comfortable with feeling stupid while learning. You learn to learn. You learn what parts of learning are normal. I started college in 2001 as a comp

I’ve had this feeling since I used my first Zebra label printer back in ... 2003? It wasn’t until 2012 I was working on the backend programming of Zebra printers that I realized Macs had very little support for designing and printing labels

I’m a company of one and I care about quality. I’ve shipped native apps for Mac, iOS and Android. About a year ago I began work on Label LIVE, an Electron app to interface with thermal label printers. It’s not perfect but it fills a niche.

For the last 5 years I’ve done mostly mobile app dev on native iOS and Android. I’ve had a few side projects involving EE, MSP430 and MicroPython, USB controllers... but a long way from being competitive against the experience you have. For

I also lacked the skills to design my own (working!) PCB. I started learning (MSP430 and TI RTOS) and realized that it was going to take years for me to come up to speed. However, I did learn enough to better communicate my EE design goals.

This is the backend that is responsible for packaging the Mac and Windows builds. https://www.electron.build/configuration/linux As far as testing on the desktop - what would you consider a minimum test environment? Pa

Yes, the only reason I haven't yet is the debate around how to deploy it. I've been using Linux on the server since the late 90s but have used a Mac for the desktop since Mac OS hit X. I'm curious what packaging systems are p

App developer here. :) Long time reader. First time poster. The Label LIVE MVP has feature-creeped along to keep pace with what I convinced myself was niche-market table stakes: barcodes, variables, spreadsheet/CSV import, full font su

I’m an experienced native app dev (swift/kotlin). I learned react/redux in a few months. For me, stressing immutability via Immutable.js/flow would go a long way. The combination is terrific but I had to piece together my own

Thank you for the date references. I just finished reading a book on Node/SailsJS and this is a great summary and overview. I’m an app developer by day but spend a lot of time keeping current on other technologies.
