Wow this is awesome! Thank you for sharing. Retainers post Invisalign cost between $400-900 for 1 set - total ripoff. This looks like a far cheaper alternative.

The issue is people. When we ripped out the back end manual fax process in favor of a better system with OCR, APIs et al we also had to change the interface phone number from ph#1 to ph#2. Changing that alone proved to be a bigger headache

Ditto! Bitbucket has served me well for so many years esp with their ondemand integrations. I really don't see why I should move to any other gitxxx. Moving tools is also a pain point so best to choose wisely.

If someone wrapped it as a microservice with containers and a deployment script for AWS then yes. Otherwise the configuration alone would take few hours. This then begs the question; was/is AWS or Google a better backend to rely on lon

Is email really broken or are people looking for things to change? Reason I ask is because I see this "let's fix email" so often, peeps build something new then it either gets acquired & killed or goes no where. What if e

Is this another Theranos? I hope not but all we are hearing are promises, NDAs and big rounds/valuations for a product not yet on the market. One kinda grows suspicious after so many howls.

Interesting observation. Anything that creates an emotional bond & takes down walls is going to build long lasting relationships among people. So partying is one of them. Especially if you are at a top school where most of your peers wi

Same example can be applied to many folks working on startups that go nowhere. Especially the early days of pivots, a/b tests et al where many solutions get thrown out. Maybe a better way to handle this is focusing on growth achieved (

Building a product is easy. Especially if you are an engineer. Getting people to pay for a product now that's where a business sprouts from. Just because you built a product doesn't mean you have a company/business. You need

Do something in between. If you have a great job that pays well expand your network and start investing excess cash into startups really early on. This way you dip your toes into those waters and get to see all the dirt and help them clean

Nice write up! Thanks for sharing. I attended a similar retreat in Australia and it's definitely a nice way to decompress and reflect. However trying to bring it into everyday habit/life is a lot harder. In the end I found that is

PageSpeed is 1 liner installation on your instance. It will compress assets etc automatically as Apache serves them. Worth adding to your deployment script.

Feels like AWS is less of a vendor lock than building it inhouse. Doing it all inhouse has a high upfront cost that must be realized over X years irrelevant of the outcome. On the other hand if one implemented a microservices architecture,

What other vendor did you go with and now looking back was it worth it from a cost & operational perspective? Why not work with AWS to mitigate such risks now that you know more about ELBs?

How is Netflix able to manage this so effectively and still serve ~30% of US traffic off AWS? I've heard the non-AWS folks talk of these vendor lock ins or long term costs but aren't those irrelevant in 2016+? eg. microservices to

Might not be that easy esp if your o/s entity still has you as a shareholder/owner. And if that country has a taxation treaty with USA like Australia does. Then you need to reveal all your foreign activity.

I believe the answer is No. The E-3 Visa states you have an intention to return back to Australia. So you need to move to a Visa like H1B which opens the door to a GC.
