I would have preferred to give 17 teams $10k rather than gamble $170k on these guys. The whole situation is a mess.

The original request was for $10,000 to cover their living expenses for 3 months. Now they have $170k, they really have no obligation to do anything with it other than support themselves for 3 months. So anything else is just gravy. Which i

It's literally the same room. It's not even a very large room; Klout is only 6 people. Also in the same room are Flowtown, Plancast, and Publitweet -- we're on the first floor of 795 Folsom, the same building as Twitter. If you're an engine

Would it be unbecoming of me to suggest that some readers of this thread might be interested in visiting http://GayGeeks.org ? It is a not-for-profit side venture of mine.

I would argue that you can wrap up all those up by saying that they focus on the user experience, rather than on any of functionality, features, performance or price. And it turns out people like stuff that works easily, even if it doesn't

Lab animals that ate less meals per day, lived longer. I think you mean animals that consumed fewer calories. I don't recall seeing any research on how many "meals" that intake was divided into.

This doesn't address 0MQ's performance improvement claims, which I would have thought was the biggest thing the RabbitMQ guys would want to address.

This must surely be the final nail in RealPlayer's coffin. The BBC is the only service I can think of that's provided RealPlayer streams since about 2005. Does anybody know of any other big hold-outs?

A dataset is great if you want to analyze a large dataset (government data in particular lends itself to this). However, an API allows you to build an application around data that doesn't exist yet : not last year's best seller list, but n

I don't think the absolute volume of searches will ever decline. However, as a percentage of attention, social surfacing of content will continue to grow. Take your Dining&Wine section example: that's what they did 3 years ago. But 10

Sit up and take note, kids: this is an early sign of a coming change in the tide of how we use the web. A shift from search to social surfacing for content discovery is under way. Google will surely fight back, and probably be back on top b

Is that what happened? The plug for State Farm at the end makes me think they did an end-run around the label and got somebody else to pay for the video, thus the record company doesn't own the video and they can embed it? (But then they'd
