Consumer SSDs are trash for sustained writes since they get their top speeds from cache and use slower NAND. Enterprise SSDs tend to have better write endurance, and faster NAND. I have a small Ceph cluster and as an example when I first bo

Protonmail has an import from gmail feature that worked well. Not that I practice inbox zero, so the amount of mail I had to transfer was very little. My wife's inbox is a disaster, sometimes I go in there to trim things down, but I ha

A lot of starvation is due to the kulaks burning the crops so the communists wouldn't seize their land. Also times are even more prosperous now and people are still starving.

I think the difference is that gambling addictions are real and lotteries and other legal gambling is somewhat of a form of harm reduction by minimalizing externalities like organized crime. There is no recognized cryptocurrency addiction.

I think the same thing plagues medicine. Vaccines have been so successful in the developed world that we have forgotten the horror of diseases like smallpox and polio. I this success helped the rise of the anti-vax movement.

And to further add, a lot of the major Red Hat backed projects switched to using Centos steam as the officially supported redhat lineage. Ceph and OpenStack Kolla are both good, major examples.

I am not familiar at all with Backblaze's storage software, but I am fairly familiar with Ceph. You are not going to get 6Gbps out of a spinner. Maybe, 1.5 or 2, if it is a fairly fast drive and the data is all sequential. Plus I belie

You can fit 40TB in a tower no problem, however you have to remember to add disks for parity, and your backups should at least be a separate box. Doing it right adds up quick in terms of cost.

After reading /r/sysadmin for years I have zero faith in the average user's ability to use such a device. The closest thing I have ever seen was some D-Link router that had the option for a DMZ
