Look at Duplicacy. It's memory usage is reasonable for me and dev is lowering it. Also faster than Restic and fully incremental.

You may also be interested in Duplicacy (not to be confused with Duplicity etc). Can also backup to SFTP, great dedupe features, RSA encryption, etc. https://duplicacy.com/home.html

The record size setting is the max, ZFS can use less in some cases. The best one depends on the data youre writing and the ashift of the pool, so testing is best. Large record sizes are helpful for large files (less overhead losses). Some g

You are lucky, or bought the right brand of drives at the right time. I had five new Seagate 7200.11s which had an easy life but not make it past 22 to 25k hours before they started failing en masse (and thats not even counting their firmwa

ZFS encrypted datasets allow for raw sends, the target server never needs the decryption key. To securely restore you would need to be able to ZFS send back to yourself first.

You can scrub but not repair, ZFS will tell you of corruption but not be able to repair. You can also set copies blocks/data (copies=2) which stores two copies on one drive, allowing you to repair. Doesn't cover you for drive fail

But again, only if whatever you are running does sync writes to storage. Many things will never benefit from or even use a SLOG. A SLOG on a pool doing async writes doesn't get used. So maybe some databases or some specific apps, but w

For Home Assistant, look at ZWave2MQTT. ZWave devices use that as their hub, Home Assistant is a client. Now restarting Home Assistant doesn't cause problems. I was ready to ditch ZWave or Home Assistant until I switched.

Indo the same idea but use a ZWave smart plug with power use monitoring with my monitors plugged into that. Watts > some number = I'm working. Via zWave2MQTT and NodeRed it triggers other logic like throttling RClone uploads.

Google Takeout. Or RClone can be used to download with some limitations (bursts dont download, GPS EXIf data is stripped, videos are true original nitrate). I use Syncthing to copy from my phone to my NAS to backup the true original files.

Pixels have always had that special selling point but newer ones have an end date of free storage for original quality. I think only the Pixel 1 has lifetime storage.

When Plex rolled out it's auto quality/auto bandwidth adjustment it actually worked very well over airplane satellite wifi as well. I watched a few things from my own server. I'm amazed that service allowed streaming though..

I use Syncthing to copy from my phone to my ZFS NAS. The phone also backs up to Google Photos (Pixel phone). From there I import them into a Lightroom catalog (looking at DigiKam though) and move the photos to a ZFS dataset that has auto sn

Anymore than five or ten servers are risky to manage manually. This isn't a problem you hit suddenly at 2000 servers when at 1800 its fine. Anyone whose properly managed more than a few servers realizes and understands this.

Read up on IOPS vs VDEVs and ashift, ashift has some important considerations for space consumption and performance and future drive replacement. You almost always want ashift=12.
