Not just that. People had ".plan" files that could be viewed with finger, and they would post updates there. I specifically remember John Carmack sharing daily news and updates on his account. It was the first form of "Twitte

Rust's many memory safety features (including the borrow checker) are still enabled in unsafe Rust blocks. For more information: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=43382176

This comment summarizes the difference of unsafe Rust quite well. Basically, mostly safe Rust, but with few exceptions, fewer than one would imagine: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=43382176

> 5-15% improvement is such a small step to justify rewriting codebases They hadn't expected any perf improvements at all. Quite the opposite, in fact. They were surprised that they saw perf improvements right away.

Sponsored ads and donations are different revenue models. Mozilla has always been collecting donations and nobody had a problem with it.

Yes, this isn't for accessing arbitrary devices. It can be used to build custom devices that can be used by webpages without any consent prompts though.

How is it better than passkeys?

The article praises passkeys for not even needing email for login, but omits to mention recovery flow. How do you recover your account if you lost your access to the passkey provider, and you didn't provide an email address? So, I thin

I love to see that my small shareware utility[1] that I uploaded to Simtel in 1997 still appears in the depths of Internet. Whenever I encounter an archive like that, I find comfort in searching for it, and seeing it "doing okay"

You still need to have a class to put your functions in, but they can act only as a namespace, like `Math.DivRem()`. C# has been receiving many functional features over the years including pattern matching, composable data processing (Linq)

It's just syntactic sugar. That said, a static class with static methods is basically a namespace.

It's not, really. All governments have to do is to block all IP addresses in exitnodes.txt, and suddenly it's only a handful of people who can bootstrap Tor using custom exit nodes remain.

Don’t refuse of course, but any workaround will be unsustainable, and you will eventually run out of measures unless the issue gets addressed politically.
