I've never, not even once, missed static typing since accepting the move to JavaScript; you just get used to it. You shouldn't rely on the compiler to detect 'errors', rely on your test cases.

"Have you tried out Riak 1.0? It’s awesome." There appears to be a bug in Riak 1.0, rendering it totally useless, at least with the NodeJS Driver: https://github.com/frank06/riak-js/issues/97#issuecomment-25... tldr; Executing a save th

Being stuck due to shitty docs is the worst. Particularly when docs are wrong, leave our crucial info, or the examples don't work (!). Developers, please take pride in great documentation, and if you get stuck due to someone else's shitty d

Web 101: Using tables -for layout- is "old school" but using tables to display tabular data is totally valid. Div/ul/dl etc are "better" because they better describe the content (at least in the case of ul/dl), are usually more terse, and m

I wasn't suggesting exclusive use of linebreak… Semicolon with no linebreak is fine, but semicolon + linebreak is 100% additional cruft. One or the other. Say it once.

Also +1 for ability to extend the language itself so we can code in DSLs. This is so powerful.

In terms of a language, it looks like a horrible step back into the 90s. What we need is the language to be terse, and clean with lots of built-in functional utilities for manipulating data structures and objects/modules/classes/etc. Ideall

Programmers care about it because it adds extra noise to your program. If you semantically, and naturally, communicate "end of statement" with a line break to human readers, why should you have to say it again with a semicolon to the compil

I guess you could, but you'd be making life harder for yourself, and other developers. Consider a website mockup by a designer with html/css experience and one without: the one with no html/css experience may be designing a total headache,

You can't talk about coffeescript without talking about JavaScript, and that's the whole point of coffeescript: "it's just JavaScript". You need to know both languages to use it effectively.

Nothing before in the history of man has had so much potential to change lives as programming does. And at little more cost than time. Incredible advances in every conceivable field are enabled by computers which must be driven by programme

I'm not surprised it doesn't work in Opera, and I wouldn't hold it against the library. I don't (personally) know a single user of opera or developer who tests on it. This is a shame, but somewhere along the line, opera dropped the ball an

You don't need provide 5x to the value, you just need to convince the employer you are. Also, much of a programmer's worth pays off over time: specifically how easy is it to maintain their code? Writing truly maintainable code is HARD and d

commandline and vim have easily got the most powerful, yet the most rage-inducing key mappings – ever. The worst, and most easily rectifiable aspect is the way command pairs (eg move back/forward a word) require two totally separate command

I will never understand how you dislike coffeescript so much. Even if you only use it to stop having to type }); and the word function, it's worth it. Everything else is a bonus. Tried it on a real project?
