I wonder how do people with PMO actually know they have this condition? If they always see faces "distorted", how do they know other people see them differently? Maybe when they feel the inconsistency when touching their face? Or

What's an install script doing in 2k lines? If it is a reasonable size, I would definitely skim through it to check that it does not mess up with my environment. Or at least that it is not an obviously malicious script.

Unrelated, but why do so many modern tools tell you to curl | sh to install them? It feels so wrong to run random code from the web. Surely "get the files from here and run install.sh" is not a hard instruction to follow for a dev

If all of this is true, you must know very well how hard it is becoming to buy new devices that do not invade your privacy. If not, I have bad news for you...

This is the same explanation I was given. In Roman times it was common to only write the first few letters of a word, just enough to be able to extrapolate the full word from the context. IV was a common abbreviation for IVPPITER.

Yes I would very much like an online encyclopedia to be moderated, thank you.

I do not understand how federation is going to solve the problems mentioned in the homepage. Surely it is going to make them 10x worse, right? The same incidents can happen, but it becomes impossible to moderate the content.

Probably not them, but other developers for whom Apple's bullshit (like the 99$/year fee) is too much of a barrier of entry would be happy to share their work for free.

This reminds me of my tragicomic experience trying to install a calculator on my work iPad. First one I tried had ads. Second one required making an account. Third one had some features reserved for the paid version (e.g. factorial). Then m

That would be great! I'd love to just be able to make and app and let Iphone users get it, without Apple having any business in it.

> I'm sure we'll see open source libraries pop up everywhere to communicate with WhatsApp directly. How so? Each of them would need approval by Meta + signing an NDA, and I can easily see that ruling out open source libraries.

So any messaging app that wants to implement Whatsapp interoperability has to apply for it, pray to get their blessing and then sign an NDA. It is probably a positive change for end users, but far far away from the "open up your protoc

+1 I watched the lectures from 2018 on YouTube: https://m.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLUl4u3cNGP63VIBQVWguXxZ... A big piece missing from there is algorithms and data structure, likely covered in one (or multiple) other cour

What kind of messaging do you need? There are open source sms and Telegram clients on F-Droid, and you can download WhatsApp's apk from their website: https://www.whatsapp.com/android

Yeah, that's true. But I always assumed you need to be really inconsiderate with your equipment to get fined. At least this is what the local stories about tourists getting fined told :) Never heard about this being a tourist trap.

What do you mean by "financial trouble"? You certainly risk getting hurt or killed without the right equipment, but I don't see how this is related to "financial trouble".

Very good article. It's nice for once to read a piece about the state of the web with a glimpse of optimism in it.

If by "nice" you mean the usual 20°C most of the time but with regular heat waves of 35-40°C from May to September, sure!
