On my home machine I have a vimrc of about 30 lines, but I could do without most of it, I could probably reduce it to about 5 lines if I had to. So whenever I use vim on a computer at university or on a new machine in the workplace, as long

This isn't redesigning piano sheet music, this is just creating a piano tablature. That's great and all, but this has existed for a long time, it's similar to how Synthesia[1] represents piano notes. The fact that the timing

It isn't shocking at all in this context - GitHub is for hosting code (and other code-like things), it isn't a content delivery network.

A pretty good treatment of the whole idea of 'EHS' in a fictional context can be seen in the Breaking Bad spin-off Better Caul Saul, where the main character has to care to his brother, who claims to have EHS.

For multirotors it's just very difficult and impractical to power them with gasoline engines. If you were to build a gas powered multirotor, you'd have to have a central engine connected to each motor by means of some complicated

Wow, this comes as a shock! Last year I saw the A400M appear at the Royal International Air Tattoo and was very impressed, as were many others. Hopefully they'll find the problem and this won't be too much of a blot on the develop

Agreed, the minimal design does have its place but I don't think the web as a whole would be any better for it. Pretty much all the webpages for the modules I study on my CS degree are of a similar kind to Stallman's, because that

Or there is the third option to think long and hard, largely agree with Stallman, but still continue to mostly use the tools you do out of habit and practicality. I'd say I fall into that category. He raises a lot of very important iss

Of course not, where did you get that idea? I don't think drones should ever be operated in close vicinity to people, especially if those people are bystanders uninvolved in the operation of said drone. Well yes, but the slight elevati

Notice I said "drones of this size". While the propellers could still cause some damage, these kind of things aren't going to kill anybody, so let's not be overdramatic. As for potential dangers to other people, the solu

Safer maybe, but nowhere near as swift and agile as a multirotor, and much more susceptible to wind.

Drones of this size are cheap enough that the extra weight and cost of engineering of safety devices generally isn't worth it. It's easier to fix or replace parts.

Mom and dad probably aren't into extreme sports or spending $500 on toys either, though. Which is why I think in a lot of these new drone ideas are disconnected from their target audience.

There are plenty of gory images on forums of people who foolishly think this is the case and are proven otherwise!

Primarily? I'd highly doubt that. Small multirotors and model aircraft like these are far more ubiquitous than the machines weighing upwards of 2,000 kgs which are used by the military.

The video looks cool and everything, but I don't really understand the mentality around these kind of hands-off 'follow me' drones. If you want high-quality aerial cinematography, you need a lot more than just an autonomous d

I came here to say this, a device for tracking heartbeats was described quite extensively in Rainbow Six. I got the impression it was more of him extending his fiction creative license than drawing any inspiration from a real product, thoug

You've answered your own question. Cars are dumb machines because we don't yet have the technology to judge what is "crazy fast" and make decision about where it should be allowed. Other than the obvious reasons of racin
