I've got the Acer Chromebook. Rather than dual booting, it was relatively easy to install a Debian chroot environment in developer mode to obtain the few extra dev utilities I really need (rdesktop mainly) that I couldn't get to work from t

Uplevel essentially allows macro like functionality to be implemented - although it is executed at runtime rather than compile time (you are executing in your caller's scope). However, it seems slightly evil for general use unless really ne

Honestly, for an IDE replacement rather than just an editor, I'd suggest Emacs rather than Vim. Reasons: * Emacs plays well with other programs, you can start other shells, language interpreters etc, from within Emacs and interact with them

Oddly, I've found myself using vimacs ( https://github.com/andrep/vimacs ) to have emacs keybindings available with the quick startup / easy configurability of vim. I make no claim that emacs keybindings are superior to vim's native keybind

I've ended up looking at Arch Linux (I installed using ArchBang which is probably a little easier/simpler than using the straight Arch installer). In actual daily use I find it about as easy as Ubuntu, but I like the more minimalist philoso
