Then I'm a year late in asking why the Go team is now deciding to say yes to something they said no to for over half a decade.

The difference is that Go could have learned from Java.

by sdegutis 8y ago
So Go is following the exact same path as Java.

What changed? Why is the Go team finally considering this now, when it has been requested for these exact reasons by many credible developers since Go's beginning? EDIT: Yes, something has changed. They always said "no, but maybe

Maybe I used culture fit the wrong way. I just meant the ability to get along in non-trivial situations and communicate effectively. I've met people who I have so little in common with that we couldn't even share a joke in either

This is absolutely correct. Companies can and should discriminate against anyone who wouldn't be a good culture fit for any number of reasons. I don't fault anyone who has ever refused to hire me for personal reasons. At the end o

I think that's because TS lets you see patterns in your data and code that were "invisible" in JS. You could still write clean code in JS, you just have to be able to see all that implicit structure. Spaghetti code is spaghet

ES6 methods are defined outside the constructor so are O(1), but all class-fields are assigned inside the constructor thus O(n), so it can make a difference.

This is the solution I've been using, but it's not ideal. The lambda stored in updateState is recreated every time the class is instantiated, which can create problems for the GC depending on how often React creates temporary inst

That's a good question, I never thought of that. Maybe while rendering they don't have easy access to which component is "this" due to the recursive algorithm they probably use? That's my only guess.

by sdegutis 8y ago
This results in extra renders for an entire component chain, because comparing two arrow functions will always be different whereas comparing two pre-defined functions will always be the same. Hence React's recommendation to use '

My TS code looks almost identical to my JS code, but with types. Some JS patterns are a little harder to express in TS, but only because they're inherently a little more difficult to implement correctly. Things like higher-order functi

Very relevant in 2018. React uses ES6 classes (inherit from React.Component) so you're very often using `this` in React. In fact it's still a major source of confusion still for many devs like me, especially when you create and pa

This is a really interesting topic to me, because I've felt a pull toward things like this myself and seen it for decades. For example, the top of the README in my Zephyros project[1] was very playfully done, and very well received too

Very cool! Where does it store the markdown data? Is it sent to any remote server or only hosted in localStorage or what? Also it would be cool if the markup was "live", in the sense that you didn't need a separate preview ph

The overlap in JS tools is a bit confusing to me. There's Webpack which bundles and transforms some aspects of your code. There's Babel which transforms (and sometimes bundles) some aspects of your code. There's TypeScript wh

Where are you seeing this happening so often? I've only seen this kind of thing in help-communities where the emphasis is on quantity over quality, and giving the quickest and most answers, and where it's not necessarily important

This is actually something I've been looking for recently. Does it handle full ES6 destructuring syntax within import statements? Does it handle import() expressions?

I don't remember the exact details, but there are drawbacks to using yield instead of naming the block variable in the method definition, even if you're only assigning yield to a variable.
