Here's hoping that the roughly quadrupling of resolution (167dpi to 300dpi) will make reading journal PDFs tolerable over the current generation of Kindles, where it's obnoxiously cumbersome (it requires rotating the screen and vi

Perhaps they can follow up with a "Code for Amtrak" on-train hackathon. Amtrak is part of our civic infrastructure, perhaps Code for America could run it.

That's an interesting idea. Are there past documented instances of the editorial board being used in this capacity?

I disagree, there doesn't seem to be a clear relationship with affluence. Here's the list along with GDP PPP per capita at a country level [1]: Helsinki, Finland 11/12 35771 Mumbai, India 9/12 3843

A service I'd pay for: Mailing list management that doesn't suck, and isn't Google Groups. Something that can be backed up, and has a web interface. Mailman is still king in this niche, and I'm not entirely sure why.

Packaging is starting to come together, but still has a ways to go. The Setuptools-Distribute merge was just announced a couple months ago, we still have 6 ways of doing things that are mostly incompatible. Packaging is mostly solved if you

I've been using ag for the past year or so, and it's great. One pain point remains the lack of Windows support, so I'm back to double-slow cygwin grep when on Windows.

Some of the code is based on Postgres, based on their own marketing materials: "Paraccel has leveraged Postgres for some of its parsing and planning functions". So the head node continues to have Postgres origins, but not the compute nodes.

I agree, and its nice to see open source projects which had naming collisions but blossomed with a new name: it's hard to imagine Firefox being 'Phoenix' or 'Firebird', both seem generic now that we know the strong identity of Firefox.
