This article is hilariously flawed, and it takes all of 5 seconds of research to see why. Alibaba is the primary comparison point made by the author, but it's a completely unsuitable comparison. Alibab is closer to AWS then Anthropic i

"six-day-week, eleven-hour-day, thirteen-dollars-an-hour" WTF? I figured the only way you'd get someone to go up there (who's not a researcher) would be to pay well. Crazy...

I drove for Uber back in like 2016, right around when Pool was introduced. Picked this dude up and then had to stop to pick up another fair, he saw it was a woman's name on the app, and when she called me to figure out where I was at h

The more I think about this the more it just seems like a marketing piece. "Everyone is running a bunch of agents all at once... writing code, and doing code and security review" (paraphrasing Okay...? What's the role back ra

Same here, had a low level ringing in my ears for as long as I can remember. I really only notice it in quieter rooms, and pretty much have to sleep with some kind of white noise going in the background. Sleeping in a dead silent room is re

It would be interesting to see a breakdown of how much this usage would cost a normal dev team paying for GPT.

I tend to use LLMs more for research then actual coding, so I ended up going with GPT over Claude because it's chat interface just seems to work better for me. It balances out Claude being slightly better at software tasks.

To each their own man, but I have a 9 month old and it's enough work without having to be on high alert constantly for bathroom queues.

The MRFF is saying they got hundreds of complaints. Seems reasonably plausible this actually happened. And given this administrations track record it's not exactly a stretch.

I don't do a lot of frontend work, but I'm glad to see more of this stuff popping up. Anything that combats the normal framework insanity is a good thing in my book. And this looks like a really cool idea. The default routing appr

They're right through, the entire point of HTMX is to use "HTML as the Engine of Application State". Shipping JSON to the front end to be rednered is antithetical to that. As someone else mentioned, having your own server bac

If Hackernews is to be taken as a representative crosss section of the industry, I disagree. I've seen plenty of people on here so hyped it boarders on hysteria. I work with a couple of senior devs who have gotten downright weird about

So you're saying they need oversight... from a professional. Preferably someone with years of experience and domain expertise, who knows how to not fuck everything up?

This sums up the inherent friction between hype and reality really well. CEOs and hype men want you to believe that LLMs can replace everyone. In 6 months you can give them the keys to the kingdom and they'll do a better job running yo

Those kids should have just pirated all the music they could, turned it into a multi billion dollar business, and had lawyers fight for them in court. As long as enough money is involved you can just about anything you want. Stupid kids

But the CEOs are saying everyone is going to be replaced by LLMs in 6 months. Surely that means they're capable of handling production environments without oversight from a professional.

I tried to use Codex to write a simple TCP to QUIC proxy. I intentionally kept the request fairly simple, take one TCP connection and map it to a QUIC connection. Gave a detailed spec, went through plan mode, clarified all the misunderstand

It could be. The amount of code you copy doesn't matter, just depends on context and if your work could now be considered derivative. I said this else where, but I work with people who won't even look at GPL code because of the po

I work with people who literally won't even look at GPL code, because of the risk. So yes, potentially.

Completely agree. This isn't practical. It's never going to happen just because of the sheer amount of capital behind LLM companies. You can do anything rotten, as long as you throw enough money at it.

The solution to this whole situation seems pretty simple to me. LLMs were trained on a giant mix of code, and it's impossible to disentangle it, but a not insignificant portion of their capabilities comes from GPL licenced code. Theref
