You've left out an absolutely massive swath between "low level systems" and "crud app". There a lot more to the industry then just those two things. And as productivity rises, the complexity and ambition of the proj

Yesterday we get a "report" from an AI company talking about how much faster you can go with AI. Today we get an AI code review company telling us how much buggier that code is. It's almost like companies that want to sell yo

Jon can be really interesting to listen to, especially when he's talking about Jai. But he can also be such a fucking tool that I can never listen for long. I've known plenty of people like him. Clearly smart, but have spent too m

It's even worse once I realized what the company was. Of course they lead with the most BS metrics that could most easily be sold to some idiot exec to justify buying their product.

That question has been baffling product managers, scrum masters, and C-suite assholes for decades. Along with how you measure engineering productivity.

It shouldn't be taken with a pinch of salt, it should be disregarded entirely. It's an utterly useless metric, and given that the report leads with it makes the entire thing suspect.

What about gpui? The Zed teams GUI framework? Edit: Oh, my bad. I thought they open sourced it separate from Zed. Looks like they are still tied together.

I think your emoji pop up thing looks better then Telegram's. There's has way too much animation with all the emoji bouncing around. Yours was nice and clean.

Yeah that aggressive sycophancy is incredibly annoying. Someone telling me I'm being a fucking idiot is more useful then "what a fantastic observation! You're so right" for the millionths time. Even using it to spitball

In addition the industry has been going through a massive correction post Covid, and all the free money drying up. Any impact AI is having is all mixed up with that. The expectations for juniors, and how seniors work with them, will certain

A guy at work did a demo of an agent work flow for some higher ups (we have chatbots but haven't adopted agents yet). He raved about how after writing a several hundred line spec, being extremely specific about the technology to use, a

The Roc programing language is being developed because Richard Feldman wanted an Elm like experience in more places then just the front end.

I've considered playing around with it. Every now and then I tell myself I'm gonna learn front end dev, but as soon as I start looking at it (FE in general not Lustre specifically) I get depressed and give up lol

Yeah I'm not a front end dev but I do kind of keep track of what's going on in that space. From what I saw it seemed Elm was all but dead. Maybe that's not true, but that was the impression from the outside looking in.

Gleam is a great language. It didn't click for me when I was trying it out, but I'm glad to see more people enjoying it. And I wonder if Gleam + Lustre could become the new Elm.

This is a fair enough point, but you should also try to keep that tree as small as possible. You should have a damn good reason to make a new service, or break an existing one in two. People treat the edges on the graph like they're fr

By the 90s/early 2000s C/C++ were the only widely used languages that met my criteria. Rust is the first "modern" language to meet that criteria while simultaneously offering memory safety. If you could afford garbage co

I'm not on the Rust bandwagon, but statements like this make absolutely no sense. A lot of software was written in C and C++ because they were the only option for decades. If you couldn't afford garbage collection and needed direc
