I think the VSCode extension marketplace greatly helps with the huge breadth of tooling. Not sure if this is applicable to regular Visual Studio as well, I've honestly never used it.

I think WSL should also be listed among awesome new developer amenities from Microsoft. I know a lot of people view it as a capitulation considering its Microsoft, but WSL is such a great tool. I purchased a Macbook about 2 years ago out of

How does cordoning off the area and not going in reflect enforcing the law to the best of their ability? Mainly in contrast to cordoning off the area, and then sending at least someone in.

I agree, and I think there's kind of an elephant in the room with respect to all Terms of Service Agreements. Anybody with a mobile phone (as well as a plethora of other products) has inevitably agreed to dozens of pages of legal doctr

What if you don't need a home, but could realistically finance one? Is there incentivisation in real estate over stable(-ish) equities if you're not looking for a long term home for yourself/family

Big aside from the actual content, but is there a name for the formatting in the text files like `freegrm4.txt`? Each line has a number of distributed extra spaces so that every line ends with the ending of a word. It makes it really pleasa

In my experience, I did eventually start to appreciate the compiler forcing me to address things up-front. But as an aside, if you're just trying to prototype quickly, some useful "shortcuts" can be: - Using `Box<dyn std::

Can increase in use of `const fn`'s create a noticeable decrease in compile times? As someone whose never worked on compilers, I'm not really sure what the magnitude of that processing time is in relation to everything else.

I think many people can resonate with the desire for more physical space than afforded by a city condo. To describe it as "consumerist" seems a little excessive. The ease of access to nature is another huge plus of getting outside

This looks comfortable, but I wonder if I'd actually be productive in this. I tried sitting on an exercise ball for a while for posture, and it definitely was a small nagging distraction. I find I'm 95% equally productive with a s

How? Not trying to be asinine, but it's not actually a simple/easy problem to solve. Many have tried.

I think the exam for TJ was relatively well known; but one thing I'd be interested in seeing is how much of kids attending TJ also attended a GT middle school, and how many also attended a GT elementary school. I have no numbers, but h

I don't see how programs like Thomas Jefferson High School will do much in bolstering the overall public education system. The program is ostensibly to give students with demonstrated aptitude, and an interest in STEM a dedicated envir

Yea I have mixed feelings as well. I watched many smart and talented people develop very well through these programs. However, the inter-competitiveness at such a young age could be pretty destructive, and was largely unacknowledged and una

I grew up in Northern Virginia, and went to a GT (gifted and talented) elementary school and middle school. I did not go to TJ, but knew many kids from my middle school who did. The GT program in many was a natural precursor to what TJ was.

Two things that come to mind for me: 1. I have had some meaningful conversations while WFH, but only with direct team-members, and only people I knew while in the office. I used to sit next to a guy in another org who was really interesting

I pass this guy (as well as the other guy across the street under the VRE bridge) every time I go for a run on the mall. I was very surprised to click this article, and think "wait I know this place". I've always wondered how
