I bootstrapped a side project into a 5k customer B2C SaaS over the past 3 years. I just finally started getting help with support, and wow -- I wish I had done that sooner. Instead, I let it build to the point where like 60% of my day (and

That's a match for my experience so far. Never could have worked this hard for someone else. Having full creative control, uncapped upside potential, and truly enjoying the work make it a lot easier to do every day. As a long-term goal

I really respect your choice to optimize for balance and enjoyment. My journey as a solopreneur is similar, but I still struggle with giving myself permission to rest. "If I take a break, the company is at a stand-still!" Despite

From what I've seen, total output (usually) continues increasing, but at a certain point, the curse of scale is bureaucracy.

If I can work on passion projects like this sustainably and live a modest lifestyle, that's all I've ever really wanted :)

Thanks! Really looking forward to being able to bring a new level of sustained focus to it, without all the context switching of the past couple years.

Oh it absolutely helped. Thanks for being one of the OG early adopters who kept me energized and motivated over the past couple years! And best of luck with the final boss: One More Year Syndrome.

Aww thanks! Although, I'm hesitant to call it a success story yet. Pretty sure that would triple the odds something spontaneously combusts.

Ah, makes sense. This one is containerized and orchestrated with Docker Compose. At this point, I can barely imagine trying to create and maintain a cross-platform self-hostable product the old school way.

This gave me a good laugh. With your powers of intuition, maybe you should just put it all on black a few times then call it a day (jk, please don't) Anyway, I appreciate you checking it out, and I'll do my best to still be here i

Luckily the current self-hosted version has not been much of a burden to support so far. But I do wonder if/how that might change with an alternate licensing model. In the examples you've heard about, do you recall where the most

Good luck, I'll be rooting for you! Currently balance updates are manual. The idea of account linking is actually a bit of a contentious topic in the PL community. Initially I wanted to steer clear of that notorious support/mainte

The shared homepage experience on HN is one of the most underrated aspects IMO. With other platforms, the algorithmically curated and individualized feeds just feel like these claustrophobic little echo chambers to me. There's a ton of

Hey thanks! And yeah that's currently the case. Most of the folks who initially asked for a self-hosted version wanted a way to pay once and then know their deployment could operate offline indefinitely. I hoped there might be a bit le

It's interesting how many tools can analyze where your money has been going, but few go deep on the planning + forecasting side. Have you thought about building out the "retirement" module more? If you need any inspiration, I

I'm flattered to see they have a page advertising it as an alternative to ProjectionLab (disclosure: I made that). Though I haven't yet seen a part of this tool that makes projections. Did I miss that?

I don't think I have much control over Paddle's free trial mechanic, but IMO a pretty effective workaround is to just subscribe and then immediately cancel. That should still give you access for the trial period and then simply no

Thanks for checking it out! Did you make it to the full plan interface? Within the House form on the plan screen, there are additional inputs to model things like insurance, taxes, maintenance, etc., and I have these split out as separate i

Yeah that kind of tinkering is what the app is made for. So it's hard not to wonder if cutting people off from that until they buy another "access pass" to their own plans might feel more frustrating than they realize.
