Were you using a 1986/1987 386? I know everyone has super rose tinted glasses when it comes to OS/2, but try it on period hardware, with what shipped in 1987. Its terrible. And yes it runs great on Pentiums or anything new under

Look for PS/2 aix 1.3 It’s not very stable, although I don’t know if it was a flakey processor

Yeah, although it was apparently really early 386 boards. I’m not sure how it would work electronically though.

I used a lot of compressed air on the socket and it made no difference. Old DOS 5 ran fine along with OS/2 1.21. The upgrade to 6.123 went fine, it’s just something else weird . Sadly I don’t know if any other 386 fans to give this a

I just got a newer cpu today I just wanted to write something out as I wasn’t expecting this kind of response. There is no problem with the drive on dos, windows or os/2 1.2 so it’s something about it being an early 2.0 beta and probab

How big was the database? that database 'engine' thing is free for DB's under 2GB back in the SQL 7 days.

Itanium XP was weird, it's like that super early AMD64 version where more of the OS is 32bit than 64bit, with no high theming. It was still exciting at the time.

Had DEC no cancelled, NT would have never been, and Gates wouldn't have had the confidence to abandon OS/2. So in the end we all won, just Dec had to die. But DEC only saw Altavista as a toy, something for showing off big systems,

Was the HAL really that compilcated? It was listed as one of the reasons why Compaq had bailed on NT. Also were you involved at all with the 64bit versions of NT? It's cool that checked build got out, and kind of funny how the compiler

damn so many potential questions, but I don't know if you can answer any as I know most people that were in those pivotal years are so cagey about it.

i'd probably blame the compiler. It's a weird mess of DEC objects being glued together to run on NT (Like the MIPS/PPC ones too). And if you wanted to make anything that for sure ran on all CPU type's you'd build

Instead, I got one with a different CPU architecture, at a comparable price which was my goal. The unlock took the most amount of time. The larger point is a comparison of AXP64, and ARM64. AMD64 hardware is pretty much easy to find, and n

Indeed. I thought it was a fun distraction, as it's not often you get to recycle some old junk, and mix it with new software. This thing with a cracked screen had zero viable future.

So I have to ask, were you swept up in the Compaq merger? No doubt NT on alpha wasn't a big seller, the fact the 64bit compiler was hiding in plain sight pretyt much sums that up. But it had to be a simple sales # thing when they kil
